Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Ankeny, IA

Wow! I wish I had seen the other review from 2 years ago because nothing has changed. When we stay at a Country Inn, I can expect clean, modern and updated. This place is the opposite. Absolutely gross and old. My kids were afraid we’d get bed bugs.. the high reviews of 4.2 is a lie!! Do not come here. There are surrounded by hotels that look a lot better. The only reason we didn’t leave is because my husband was too tired from driving 11 hrs and didn’t want to risk not being able to get another hotel with it being a holiday… Me, I wanted to cancel as we entered the parking lot… They have continental breakfast but we will NOT be eating here. If they don’t take pride in the building or their rooms, their kitchen is probably even more disgusting. Look at the pictures of our room!

This place was lovely. Kim, the morning front desk gal, was extremely helpful. She had so many tasks yet still took the time to let us know about local restaurants. The hot tub was relaxing and the gym had all the essentials.

The location is great. I liked the space and the layout of the whirlpool bath suite. I loved that the windows opened completely and easily, because I like air year-round. I loved that the refrigerator/freezer worked really well, and was defrosted so there was space. The room was clean, and the front desk was very friendly. What I didn't like is the whirlpool bath Jets did not work, and the outer casing was off and only propped up; so, when I walked up to the bathtub it flipped forward into my knees and shins. When I took a look, it was dirty and unattractive and had to be dealt with every time I approached the bathtub. Positive: The hotel was great! We were surprised at quiet it was. The hot tub and pool were great and the area was clean and the breakfast had a good selection. Negative: The bathroom fan is on and no way to control it. We simply shut the door and it helped. The shower head was a bit wonky but after we adjusted it, it worked better.

Upon entering our room there was an overwhelming smell of mildew. The room looked clean, but many things were broken or not working correctly. Our heat register did not work, it wouldn’t shut off after reaching temperature, so we had to open windows to make it through the night comfortably. I specifically requested the room we did to utilize a pull out couch. When opening the first couch it looked like someone had puked all over it and the mattress was stained. Upon opening the second couch there were huge rust stains and again a dirty mattress. We ended up squeezing everyone into the queen beds. There was a large crack in our tub with tape over it. Breakfast was fine. The pool area had a few bugs, murky water and the room temperature was much cooler, therefore uncomfortable to swim. We
