Cornell Hotel De France, San Francisco

Overall 2.5 ⭐️ I stayed at this property for about six days during a work trip. Since it was a last-minute booking and one of the few places available, I booked through a third-party site and only skimmed the Google reviews. Some of the things I mention below may be stated on the hotel’s website. The entrance was simply a regular building entrance, which was quite surprising when I got out of the Uber. I wasn’t expecting anything luxurious, but I did expect it to look at least somewhat like a hotel. I had messaged ahead to inform them that I would be arriving late due to my flight. This was my return stay at the Cornell Hotel de France, and I think I love it even more now. I've always adored the French style and historic charm of this boutique hotel, but on this visit I learned something that made it even more special- the hand-painted artwork throughout the building was created by an artist who lived in the hotel for 12 years. It took that long to complete all of the unique pieces- such character! Every room is different, and I had the chance to tour a few of them- each one beautifully styled with its own personality.||Breakfast was delicious each morning: scrambled eggs, bacon, croissants, fruit and cereal- the perfect way to start the day. We didn’t get the room that we reserved. The room we ended up with looked like a budget motel room. This was a special trip for our anniversary and it didn’t matter to them to get it right. When we told the front desk about how they put us in the wrong room, we were told that they were booked fully. But there were still people checking in and I asked them if they could just put the new check-in people on hold so that we could sort out our room and they refused. The pillows were very big and hard to sleep on, but the mattress was very comfortable. There is no AC and no fan in the room. It was muggy and hot so we had to keep the window open. But when the window was open, we heard the bells from the trolley and sirens from police officers constantly.

What a fabulous find Hotel Cornell de France was! Stayed for 4 nights in a deluxe queen with breakfast included. Location was quiet yet was really handy to the cable cars and buses so super easy to get around. The room was very clean and staff were incredibly helpful and polite.Bathroom had nice big shower with instant hot water and toiletries provided. Breakfast was buffet style with cooked options or cereals, toast juice or coffee and really yummy fresh warm croissants. Definitely recommend and will stay here again.

I was just in Paris and this quaint hotel totally reminded me of the city of light. It is well decorated in French and Joan of Arc themes, cozy, and the room I had was a mini suite. It was quiet, clean, comfortable, and the bed was soft enough for me since I am a picky sleeper. The elevator alone is worth staying here-- very authentic. There was a delicious continental breakfast included with my stay. I will be back. Merci!
