Candlewood Suites Alexandria by IHG

We were in Alexandria to visit a family member in the hospital. We arrived at the hotel at 3:00 in the morning, hoping there was “room at the inn”. The staff on duty at that time made sure the rooms (we needed two) were close together. We tried to sleep for a few hours, and finally decided to go back to the hospital around 7:30. We stopped at the front desk to see what our options were to add another night’s stay if we needed it. The front desk person said she would put in our room notes for a late checkout, and let her know later on if she needed to add the night. Our family member succumbed to his illness, and so we decided to stay another night since no one was in the mind to drive three and a half hours home. We got to Alexandria at 3:30am on December 26 due to a family emergency and stopped here to ask if we can book a room under the circumstances despite it being 3 am. The lady at the front desk worked with us quickly to get us two rooms next to each other. The rooms were beautiful and exactly as pictured in the website; filled with two large beds, a refrigerator and freezer, microwave and stove top, dressers, etc. Our emergency extended into the following day at the hospital; and we knew we would need to stay again. The front desk automatically extended our stays without asking us "in case" we needed an extra day; and that we can figure out the financial side of it later. Well here we go, arrived at Candlewwod Suites on a Tuesday afternoon and went to room opened door to find out it was a room occupied? Thank God the tenant was not in there as I saw a knife in a sheath on the table. Imagine the outcome if the tenant was in the room! I immediately went to lobby to let.them know and get another room. The incident was rectified and apology was accepted. I stayed at IHG hotels exclusively for business 240 days a year for 2 years straight which leads me to the 2nd incident. I was at Candlewood suites for 8 days and not once during that week's stay was the room cleaned nor dirty towels changed. The trash was piled in both trash cans? Are the guest required to take out the trash? These are common accommodations expected and should not be a part of a guests res

Positive: "" Negative: The elevator doesn?t work consistently. Customers should know this before they book the hotel. We had to carry our luggage up three flights of stairs when we checked-in. When it did work, it made a horrible sound.

This Candlewood location could be a lot better than it is. There is no lack of friendly and professional staff however the room cleanliness, pest odor and ants are unacceptable. When you enter your room for the first time and greeted with an overwhelming cloud of perfumed carpet deodorizer, you can likely get hit when it wears off with the pet odor. Beware the ants crawling around the counter at the stove area. Candlewood, if you cleaned this hotel up, you would have a much better reputation.
