Baymont by Wyndham Grand Rapids Near Downtown

I did not feel safe staying here due to the environment. There was blood and stains on various parts of the room, like walls, bed, curtains (I took images), there are patches of paint missing on the walls, the smell/odors in the halls and room are nauseating and overwhelming of smoke and other smells. The lady that checked me in & checked me out (about 15 minutes after I checked in) was very nice and patient. Listened to my experience. Been trying to get a status on my refund, Expedia has been calling them and no answer & I’ve been messaging the hotel after they said they would release back my funds and they do not respond.

Rough area, paint missing in room, abrasions/Holes in walls. Smoke alarm was inside the refrigerator and not on the wall on it's base. Bathroom smells like cigarettes bad, tub is stained. Water valves for shower/tub barely in the wall. One nighter at best if on a budget. Parking lot although somewhat covered in snow is full of trash and remnants of eaten food. Not the worst i've stayed in, definitely not the best. Lady at the front desk was polite and service there was good. Owner/management not keeping up on the property.

Full disclosure; I booked my stay here because it was right off the highway and I didn't feel like getting immediately lost. I fully expected to change hotels the following night. However, the room was clean, the staff was friendly and the smoking area was enclosed meaning I didn't have to stand out front so I wound up staying. And the AC worked! Seriously, a lot of places miss this so I just wanted to mention it. I always welcome free coffee, and the donuts in the morning definitely helped. When room service arrived they were polite, friendly and in and out like a NASCAR pit crew. I also dig the Mexican restaurant right down the street and being able to bring the food back and microwave it in my room was a huge plus. LEFT NASTY BEST WESTERN NEXT DOOR AND CAME HERE Overall this was an amazing property for its price and service. Very nice staff and clean rooms. The hotel is conveniently located near shopping and dining. Traffic noise was noticeable, but other than that, I felt safe and very comfortable. The continental breakfast was good and overall satisfaction was there.. Don't ever waste your money at Best Western next door, it's a dump piece of crap.its better to spend money where your money is respected and value. Go Wyndham!!

Positive: They have access to a gym [some equipment broken or not secured properly), a pool and an (average) arcade with it. Negative: The staff was not friendly with the exception of the 3rd shift front desk clerk. The blankets were dirty so I cleaned them myself. The "breakfast" was horrible. They offered some mini-muffins *these were okay*, bagels, and cereal. staff was cold.
