Avenue Inn Downtown San Luis Obispo

Warning: if you arrive after the lobby closes at 10pm, you may need to wait more than 15 minutes until someone arrives to check you in. We spoke with the hotel staff twice during our day-long drive to reach SLO, updating them about our anticipated arrival time. Each time, they assured us it was ok to arrive after 10pm, but that we would need to call upon arrival to wake someone up to check us in. Had we known we would be waking someone up, we would not have reserved here in the first place. When we arrived, we called and were assured someone would be in the lobby in a few minutes. After 14 minutes of waiting, we called again. Again we were told someone would arrive in the lobby in a few minutes. I stayed while visiting family. The hotel was reasonably priced, clean and quiet. It's not fancy, but a great place to stay if you're only using the room to sleep and get ready for your day. The office and cleaning team were great!

Good location. Fairly quiet though quite close to downtown. Bed was comfy. Pillows and sheets were highly starched and crispy. Polite, but quite slow service. Overall well worn, tiny room with the smallest tv I have seen in a while and no good channels. Odd smell that I couldn't quite figure out. When I pulled down the covers I found what looked like a bug. Freaked me out. I went out to my car and got my magnifying glass, and determined that it was not a bug although I still couldn't really tell what it really was. I would have preferred that it wasn't inside the bed in any event. Continental breakfast was a granola bar and coffee. The coffee was pretty good. The granola bar was not. Positive: The woman at the desk was very friendly and gave us great info about the area. The room was clean and nicely arranged with the larger area since we had the king bed. Great location for walking to downtown. Negative: Nothing negative.

Nice hotel close to SLO downtown. Although it’s right near the freeway I didn’t notice the noise. The room was very clean and well stocked with amenities. Reasonably priced and very comfortable.
