Aldrich Hotel

I visit San Francisco for a major conference every year, and I generally stay at the Parc55 or the Nikki hotel, but I could not afford it. I expected it to be bad, but the price is unbeatable for the area, so despite some trepidation, I booked 4 nights.||||I visited in December, and it was very cold and drafty. I bought some packing tape for the window, which made it much better. The room also had a very small heater, which did not work properly because of air in the circuit. There is a bleeding valve, so I let the air out, and then it started working better. I still used my coat as an additional blanket, and it was ok.||||My room had no bed-bugs, but as all rooms, only a sink and the shower/toilet shared with the rest of the floor occupants. Horrible place. It's right in the middle of blocks of homeless people. The people outside were on drugs, naked, drunk, screaming and fighting all night. You could hear and smell everything from outside in the room, even with closed windows. The smell was again drugs and human "output". The hotel door is locked 24/7, so that nobody can get in, that's how bad the neighborhood is. The hotel itself is really old inside. The rooms were not cleaned once in our three night stay. The bathtub was dirty, I didn't want to shower at all. One night I had to kill a cockroach which was running on the floor next to the bed. The people running the hotel were friendly, that's the only positive thing.

Service/employees were fine, room was decent , it's the very basic you need - bed, bathroom, TV. Hotel is in a bad area so hotel front door is locked 24/7, very outdated no A/C and we stayed on the top floor so it was very hot all night and alot of yelling outside, sirens going off constantly so made for sleepless nights. We stayed 4 nights and not cleaned/towels replaced - take that how you want. It's definitely not your typical chain hotel, just overall dirty feeling. Not from the area so took a chance but would not stay again.

The worst hotel I've ever stayed in. We checked into this hotel to get away from another hotel that was full of homeless people shooting up. We moved to this hotel hopefully thinking it would be better. Was I wrong! Full of shady characters everywhere. The hotel it's self had the dodgiest elevator I'd ever seen! Our room wasn't that good, paper thin walls I could hear people having sex in the room next door! My partner got bed bugs just yuck! I only got 3 hours sleep, it was just so loud and noisy everywhere. Checked out after one night at 5am, will never ever stay here again! Highly recommend people don't stay here! It's for people using drugs and banging porstitues. Just spend the better money and stay away from this place, you won't feel safe. Trust me I didn't either

This place is a very basic rundown hotel. Which is fine, I wasn't expecting the earth. The room was a decent size and there was a shared toilet and shower on my floor. The bed was fine I had everything I needed. The big problem however is the neighbourhood I was in. Do you research before booking. There is a lot of homeless in the area and if you are after a romantic image of SF this will ruin it.
