Volcano Forest Inn (VFI)

The in Inn provided a quiet and comfortable stay. The rooms are very spacious, with hardwood floors, a clean bathroom, and a private deck overlooking the forest. The property is well maintained and peaceful, with easy on-site parking. Outside every window you are surrounded by trees and the birds chirping and rain makes it very peaceful and relaxing. Wi-Fi worked well, the beds were comfortable, and everything was clean. The Inn also includes a spacious shared kitchen and complimentary coffee, snacks, fruits. The location is excellent — less than 5 minutes drive to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and Volcano Village restaurants, gas, and general stores, yet far enough from the road to avoid noise. My stay at the Volcano Forest Inn exceeded expectations. It was the perfect setting and quite the adventure driving in the light rain a few hundred yards down a dirt road surrounded by thick trees to finally arrive at this beautiful Inn nestled in the Volcano Forest. Jon texted the entry code as well as very detailed instructions and information prior to my arrival which was very useful as well as welcoming. If I texted a question, he would promptly respond. Jon was there to greet me as I drove up and was very friendly and helpful. One of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. We arrived within the official check-in time, but the host was not present. Instead, we found the doors locked and only a letter addressed to us on the main entrance. The letter instructed us to contact the host via WhatsApp and stated that we would only receive the door access code after paying an additional USD 80 “cleaning fee,” which was not disclosed anywhere in the Booking.com listing or during the booking process. As we were standing in front of a closed property with no alternative accommodation, we were effectively forced to pay the fee. The situation was handled in a very unprofessional manner. The host later refused to take responsibility and claimed that Booking.com was at fault, telling us to contact them ourselves to obtain

During my brief stay at this establishment, I encountered several unsatisfactory experiences. The bed provided an exceptionally uncomfortable and noisy sleeping environment. The bedding material was of subpar quality, further hindering my ability to rest. Despite the presence of a heater, the room maintained a frigid temperature. Additionally, I was charged an exorbitant $80 cleaning fee, which was not disclosed to me prior to my arrival. This fee was only brought to my attention upon my arrival, and a note had been posted indicating that failure to pay would result in the cancellation of my room.
