The Driskill - The Unbound Collection by Hyatt

I've lived in Texas for 30+ years. Staying at The Driskill was on my bucket list since the first time I saw it. Of course, this was during the more financially modest years of my military career. But this week, my wife and I finally achieved my goal and it did not disappoint. Superb service and detailed fit and finish in all aspects of our room. Unfortunately for us, they are in the middle of an upgrade and we missed the most beautiful parts of the lobby et al. I did take away one star for a somewhat minor issue, but one that seems to be pervasive throughout the industry: We enjoyed some drinks in The Victorian Lounge before we headed to a late dinner. Hyatt categorize this hotel as level 6 but you can't expect the same from what you normally get from a similar level of hyatt hotels. There are no body lotion, no makeup remover, no bottle water, there are nothing other than a piece of soap. I called front desk for a body lotion, the person who answered the phone said "I would get you one" but never happened. It says a historical landmark, The hotel does hang some nice paints. The room has darker bluerish wall color, a VERY small single sink that edge barely fit a cosmetics bag. The room also had some kind of old smell. The location is excellent where it only takes about 10 minutes walking to the state capital. I didn't eat at the restaurant because I couldn't find the food I liked from the muen (not many selections). But I saw a lot of go

We chose this hotel because the location was good for the places we were visiting. It was surprising to find that the hotel is under construction which was not what we expected prior to our arrival. Areas of the hotel were closed and walking to our room was awkward. We had to take two elevators or stairs to the mezzanine and elevator to our floor. We had to walk through a very cavernous mezzanine where they have banquets but there was no place to sit in that area, just a huge expanse. We were traveling with another couple and the only place to visit was in the lobby area which was surrounded by drapes covering the construction.
