The Capitol Hotel

I travel frequently and am comfortable staying in modest hotels as long as they are clean and safe. Unfortunately, The Capitol Hotel in Hartford raised serious safety concerns and appears to be significantly misrepresented online. The property does not resemble the photos on Expedia. The exterior is extremely run down, and the covered entrance had large holes in the roof with exposed pipes and roofing material hanging down, giving the impression the building is poorly maintained. My daughter arrived around 11 PM after a late flight. When she entered the lobby there were people sleeping on the floor and in chairs, and she overheard the front desk telling someone without a room that they could sleep in the lobby for the night. Employees falsely accused me of smoking even though I don’t smoke & even have a medical condition that affects my lungs. Several other reviews state that the entire place smells like smoke, yet I was blamed and forced to pay $250 for something I didn’t do. The rooms are gross, there’s loud and sketchy guests, the walls are paper thin so you won’t sleep, and if all of that wasn’t bad enough- they came to my room 3 times to argue with me about late checkout even though I’d made sure it was okay with their front desk staff the night before. They failed to provide any evidence of me smoking (I even offered for them to go through my belongings) and management doesn’t ever call back. Positive: That eventually I was able to check out and leave the dump Negative: Elevators did not work properly couldn't get breakfast because they wouldn't go to the second floor. Shower backed up and there was dark brown water coming up through the drain. Don't even want to know what it was. Room smelled horrible. Much more to list

The room looked nice but everything nice always has an issue.....that issues were that the beds are hard and pillows soft plus there's roaches, I saw 2 in the bathroom and 1 coming out of the smoke detector. Idk what happened with the hotel but they have to do better... Also if booking from a third party just know parking is $15 and accidentally fee is $100(you won't get that back until 1-2 business days)

The location was pretty good , but that was the only positive. Outside parking sucks it was 16 dollars every day. The bed was extremely hard , pillows flat. The shower on the hottest temperature was barley lukewarm. The bathroom floor was sticky and the walls were paper-thin I could hear the people across the hall from me and the people above me and people sharing a wall with me at all hours of the night. Find another hotel.
