We stayed in the Maple Cabin over the 4th of July weekend. It was amazing! I’m obsessed and can’t wait to go back. Caught 2 Northerns 2 Bass and 2 Walleye. (My First Walleye ever caught)! There’s no service unless you have AT&T and no TV but it’s absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend!
First and foremost, the resort’s access to Burntside Lake cannot be beat!! Stunning lake for fishing (small-mouth bass, pike, plus opportunities for trout and walleye if you pick the right spots). Located 15-20 min from downtown Ely. Cabins are quaint and vary in size, so use the descriptions on their site to select the best cabin for your needs. Interior photos within this review are all from the Jackpine. The screened-in mini-porch was the best part of this cabin, the bathroom sink and shower are both small and the worst part of the stay were the pests. There were several large spiders found in the cabin during the visit, and another visiting family in a separate cabin had carpenter ants invading their space. I had experienced this type of issue here, back in 2020, but it hadn’t been an
A nice, rustic resort with a laid back feel sitting on the shores of beautiful Burntside Lake. Our cabin had everything necessary for an enjoyable stay on our annual fishing vacation. The resort owners were very helpful and friendly, even putting up a sign to direct us to our cabin due to our late arrival. The resort is definitely off the beaten path, but still a short drive from Ely where you can get any needed supplies or groceries. Burntside is one of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen with its tree covered islands and lichen coated bedrock outcrops. We had our choice of many, MANY lakes within a half hour drive to choose from to fish and were less than an hour and a half from the North Shore of Superior, which was a beautiful sight.
The cabin had everything youd need. Bedding, oven, microwave, coffee pot, fridge/freezer, silverware, etc. The owners are very friendly and helpful. And Randy was also awesome. (Friendly fox who loves fig newtons). The lake was a little bit of a let down for pike fishing we only caught a few but seen some really nice size ones. Could just be the time of the year. I would definitely stay here again if I brought a boat to try some other lakes in the area.
My husband and I have been coming here for 5 years. We come off-peak because we want the quiet (and no mosquitoes). The cabin we always stay in is perfect for our needs, simple and fully-stocked, with friendly and clear instructions for clean-up and check-out. The proprietors are really great, easy-going, and helpful if you have any issue. This is a sweet old resort, Minnesota Old School. If you need TV and Internet and "service" and a grounds crew, then go elsewhere. If you are self-sufficient and want to be in the woods and on a beautiful lake in a charming place, this is it.
