Big Lake Wilderness Lodge

Our family had an absolutely wonderful stay at Big Lake Wilderness Lodge. From the moment we arrived, the owners went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect, from the lodging accommodations to recommendations for fishing spots, hiking trails, and nearby lakes. They were incredibly kind and thoughtful, especially with our kids, ages 3 and 6, who had endless activities to enjoy. Between the little beach area, the trampoline on the water, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boating (which quickly became their obsession), the playground, and even fishing tools, there was never a dull moment. The lodge also had fun little touches like popcorn and freeze pops whenever we stopped by, which made the kids feel extra special. A perfect get away. Cheryl was one of the most gracious hosts we have experienced. The facilities are just what one would expect at a Wilderness Resort. Clean and adequate and comfortably rustic. All our expectations were met.

What a great place! We've come to Big Lake Wilderness Lodge for nearly 30 years -- Chuck and Cheryl run the resort so well, and they treat us like family. The resort is beautifully situated on Big Lake, with clean and comfortable cabins. It's around 40 minutes to Ely from Big Lake, which to us is an advantage - the lake is uncrowded as a result. It's easy to take day trips (or longer) into the Boundary Waters straight from the resort -- the southwestern shoreline of Big Lake is actually part of the BWCAW, and you can simply portage or paddle from Big Lake into the lakes south of Big Lake. Good swimming, canoeing, fishing, stargazing, hiking at Big Lake, but a lot of our time there is just spent relaxing! We always feel rejuvenated and refreshed after our time at Big Lake, and always look

Big Lake is an awesome place - peaceful, restful, beautiful, my Heaven on Earth! You couldn't ask for nicer people than Chuck and Cheryl, and the rest of the crew, too! Thank you once again, it was an amazing week!
