Camp Van Vac

My family and I just returned home from our trip at camp van vac. The location and scenery is beautiful. Some lasting memories were made with our young children who experienced the wilderness of northern Minnesota for the first time. The accommodations were quite rustic which we were well aware of and excited to experience. My kids enjoyed bath time in the lake and did not even notice the lack of TV or screens. One major concern I have is the structural integrity of the cabin we stayed at (cabin # 25) as it had a very obvious issue with carpenter ants. Some of the timbers even seemed to be hollow and soft from the ant traffic. My hope is that this can be taken care of so that this cabin will be standing in the furture! I am curious to know if the carpenter ant issue is in all of the cabins

This property is a group of cabins located on a beautiful lake in Northern Minnesota. The lake may be one of the most beautiful anywhere in terms of shoreline natural beauty and clean clear water. The cabins are old but substantial providing the basic needs. Many are placed very close to the water for excellent views & water sounds. It may be too rustic for some folks but if you like the outdoors, enjoy camping, boating, hiking, water sports, this is a great place to relax and enjoy nature.||My family has been coming here for over 20 years for a Boundary Waters experience that does not require sleeping a tent, and I highly recommend it.

Stay in simple 110-year-old log cabins on beautiful, clean Burntside Lake, one portage away from the BWCA. We, like many, have been returning here every year for decades to enjoy the quiet, simplicity, trees, rocks, and water. I can think of only two things here that are state-of-the-art: Wi-Fi and the new pine-paneled outhouses. The rest is like a step back to a simpler time, which we love.

My family has been coming here for 24 years. It's like my second home. I have the fondest memories fishing from the rock formations, playing cards in the cabins on rainy days, getting the group together for meals in cabin one, hitting the shops in Ely, jumping off the bluffs of Lockhart Island on Burntside Lake, and the list goes on. We've seen wild moose and black bears (they keep to themselves), deer, friendly ground squirrels, beavers and loons to name a few of nature's wonders! If you love nature and unplugged experiences for the family, you must find Camp Van Vac!

I came here with my friend’s family many years ago and have wanted to come back ever since. What a wonderful place. The cabins are simple, comfortable, and only a couple feet away from the crystal clear waters of Burntside Lake. Undisturbed views of the beautiful sunsets, skies full of stars, and the sounds of nature. Perfect place to go to reset and contemplate in peace while in awe of your surroundings. Hope to return someday.
