SureStay by Best Western Charlotte/Matthews

I want to preface this by saying SOMEHOW the health department gave this place a 96.5 health rating. I CALL LIES. I’m just like everyone else in this Google review. I booked this place due to its reasonable price ( even though the price was the opposite online and we had to price match it) however my stay was very disappointing. First off their system was down so I got double charged for my stay and now need to dispute my charge. But the bathroom had mold. AND THEN once I went to my room the key didn’t work I went to change it and got the most decrepit room ever. The room smelled gross. The light flickered in and out in the room. Really nice hotel actually! I wasn’t sure about the Independence Inn only because I haven’t heard of them and turns out they’ve taken over from Best Western about 2yrs ago but will be going back to Best Western according to the front desk. Either way, this property is actually really nice for what you pay for. The rooms were clean, beds nice and comfy, facilities around the property (fitness center, laundry ($2 each W&D) and common areas) and breakfast was good too! I want to give a specific shout out “Najaf” at the front desk. What a guy, he was super cool upon check-in and even as I went back out to grab a couple more bags after I checked in, he asked if I was alright when I walked past him at the front. I booked a 2-night stay at this hotel because the price was reasonable and the rating on Priceline was listed as 8+. After confirming the reservation, I read through more of the recent reviews and noticed more than twenty negative comments mentioning issues like strong odors, mold, urine smells, peeling wallpaper, mismatched bedding, hair in the beds, bed bugs, rust-colored or brown water, and other cleanliness concerns. Because of these consistent comments, I decided to ask to see the room before paying the incidental fee. Unfortunately, what I saw matched the recent reviews. BEWARE IF YOU DONT WANT ORGAN FAILURE! You have to park at chilis across the street and If you care about your family keep them out of this place. They have painted over layers of black MOLD! My whole family as soon as we walked in had headaches itchy eyes and were sick. They will not refund you despite having deadly living conditions. I’ve reported them to law enforcement, the health department, and my credit card company. Before this address was shared with “Best Western”, now it’s an insurance company and “Felix Hotel”.
