SpringHill Suites by Marriott Birmingham Downtown at UAB

We were scheduled to show up for a surgery for our youngest son at UAB and we decided to give our business to this particular hotel. Everything was going well up until the day of checkout as we were leaving I spotted a live bedbug in room 426. We went to check out after I inspected all our belongings and I didn’t have really enough time to inspect our stuff as our child’s surgery was coming up so we had to risk it and I asked if they would give me bags to put our stuff in and they come back with the smallest bags they could find. We are trying to get. This was so stressful to deal with on top of our child’s surgery and having to put this stuff in our vehicle hoping not to bring anything home with us. We are still trying to get a refund over a week later and they’re claiming that hotels.c

Front desk service was great at checkin and attempt to find us a suitable room. Rooms were VERY poorly cleaned and maintained. First room they put us in smelled like smoke. Second room they put us in had a fake fingernail in the floor and hair all over the bathtub. Third room had no trashcan and up under the mattress was extremely dirty. We very much enjoy staying at Marriott hotels but should we return to Birmingham it will not be at the Springhill Suites.

This is the second time we have stayed at a Springhill Suites near a university hospital for medical reasons. The first was in Miami near U of M. On Trip Advisor it had received poor reviews. I thought it was a very well-run property and had zero complaints, and I made sure to say so in a review on this website. Well, history repeats. Springhill Suites at UAB in Birmingham has reviews on Trip Advisor that may keep potential guests away. We spent 3 nights here and I can attest that this is a very nice, very well-run Marriott property. Every single staff member we have interacted with has been as friendly, professional, and helpful as they could be. The breakfast is great and dining area is large and very comfortable. Good coffee. Front desk staff was really nice. They are the only thing that was good about the stay.if I could give this place negative stars I would. The main issue is house keeping. We stayed 2 nights and they came in our room and sloppily pulled the covers up on the bed but didn’t actually make the bed. They didn’t clean anything in the bathroom, didnt take the dirty towels, didn’t empty the trash and did not leave fresh towels. Well why come into our room then? And This was our second room, the first room had a moldy smell, mold in the crevices of the bath tub and bathroom floor.. and there was hair in the tub. The manager was nice and moved us to another room. During our stay, someone spilled dog food all over the floor in front of their room and it was there for a full 24 hours. Very gross. Br
