Sonesta Simply Suites Charlotte University

I'm not sure how this hotel got 3.9 stars or even 3. I should have walked in and walked in and walked out. As I was parking in the parking lot a drug sale was taking place, then as I walked in the lobby, the residents looked as if it were there home and were drug addicts themselves. The walls and elevator was old. The customer service was average. Then as we entered the room it smelled as if someone just finished cooking, and the room was not like pictures online. I was afraid to sit down and or use the bathroom. The carpet is old, and we also seen a roach. At that point I left and had to find another hotel in the middle of the night. They didn't offer any refund but I refused to stay another minute in that hotel and then having to put out more fees for a bigger problem. The area was great

Positive: Easy to get to, priced well. Staff was nice, room was clean, bed was comfortable. I had an ADA room which was fine. Shower was nice and having a mini kitchen is nice. Negative: Stairwell smelt funny and elevator was kinda scary (slow and jumpy), so I took the stairs....

Upon check-in, I was greeted by a nice young lady who provided me with info about surrounding cities as we were in Charlotte looking for homes. She was great! I wish I had gotten her name. She didn't wear a name tag.||CONS: We stayed in room 344 (1 bedroom suite with queen bed), which was conveniently located next to the stairs. We entered through the back/side door, and the floor was ABSOLUTELY FILTHY as were the stairs we climbed to reach the 3rd floor. As soon as we walked into the room, we were slapped in the face with what smelled like rotten fish and sweaty stinky feet! I thought maybe the room just needed to be aired out. So my husband and I get in the room and wipe everything down as we normally do when staying in a hotel. There was lots of dust. Ok. Then there's the couch. I won't

My wife was plain & simple afraid to stay here when we arrived late. Signs in the parking lot warning us not to leave valuables in the car were the first clue we made a bad choice. Not sure why two cars were idling in the parking lot with drivers watching us as we hauled everything inside. The room was fairly clean and ok, but the common areas were stained, unkempt, and smelled like someone spilled a 55 gallon drum of Febreeze in the stairwell. If you’re looking for a low-cost flophouse, this is for you. Otherwise, I’d steer clear.

I pre paid through booking and when I went here man oh man does the photos not match what was here. This is more like a motel. The same type of people and the same busted up everything. Front door is broken. Place reeks of pot. I walked into the front lobby smelled liked they were growing in the lobby. Probably because the manager is out front of the place smoking pot. Then I called to try canceling my reservation. And of course they denied ans kept my money. By lookin at the place I wasn't surprised they wouldn't give the money back. Stay far far away unless you love broke down sketchy motels. My best advice for the same price way way way better quality go to "staybridge suites" you will thank me a 1000 times over.
