Saranac Lake Islands Camp ground

We stayed at number 62 which was amazing. It was a level spot with plenty of room and very private but close to the dock. Plenty of room to dock the Pontoon. The only complaint was the potty was way up in the woods which I was not brave enough to visit at night.

We're officially spoiled with primitive camping since Saranac Lake. Beautiful location, views, clean water, great fishing, nearly insect-free, low traffic, lots of campsite privacy/low site-to-site proximity, great hikes nearby, starry skies, soft pine needle beds. If there is one thing to improve it would be the chemical toilets...which are a step up above a primitive outhouse, but boy do they stink! The outhouses are so nasty that some people are leaving their raw sewage and TP in the woods immediately next to their tent site. That's not a solution people! If the park service lacks the resources, help make the outhouses and sites better, not worse. I used baking soda exclusively for bathing in the lake water - works great - no need to add perfumed shampoo or soap to the lake. Staye

This campground is absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to visit again. All the sites are very private and on the water (you have to take a kayak/canoe/boat/etc to get to them)! We were on an island that had two sites and we never even saw the other site/other campers. We did canoes and kayaks and it was so much fun, about a 30 minute paddle. There is an out house, but be sure to bring plenty of drinking water since there is no water source. It also had a picnic table and firepit with grates for cooking. It was beautiful with the mountains and the most picturesque/quiet campsite i have ever been to. Highly recommend!

Spent just one night here on a gorgeous September weekend. Sites are boat access only (except maybe a couple where you could walk in) so the camping is primitive. You have to bring in all your supplies including water, and scavenge for wood. Each site has an outhouse and ours also had a lean-to and huge fire-pit. Very pretty woods . Privacy galore and a nice mixture of boats from canoes and kayaks to pontoon boats and speed boats. Very quiet even with the motor boats. We were on Middle Lake but if you are on Lower Saranac Lake you could also have easy access to town. Books up in the summer but there are lots of empty sites after Labor Day.

Camped in early July in site 48, a shoreline site. The shoreline sites feel very isolated from each other, probably more than the shared island sites. Still, lots of privacy and space between these campsites. This is a big lake! The lake water is great for swimming and fishing. Caught a northern pike for lunch our first day there. Site 48 is high up off the water, but has a low landing spot for canoes just east along the shore. Shore sites are sure to have deadwood for fires back in the trees but island sites likely to be picked clean. Wind was generally out of the west when it picked up. Site 48 is pretty exposed to it, being on a rock bluff over the water. Windy conditions could make a campfire impossible in site 48 as the fire pit is open to the West side toward the water. On the
