Abolsutely incredible place to stay in Santa Cruz! The whole hostel is super artsy and cozy, with clean bedrooms and bathrooms (and very cozy blankets). The staff are so welcoming and even helped me extend my stay an extra day (passed the cutoff for registering for another night), because they said that I was such a genuine person that I deserved it. Guys, my heart. Also, as with most hostel experiences I've had, I made friends with other hostel-goers (over a game of Uno this time). We went out watch the sunrise and grab Roxa tea downtown, and even two of us went surfing at Capitola on the surfboards the hostel has in the back! If you're new to Santa Cruz or even just passing through and want to meet other cool people, this is the place to stay.
I have visited the Carmelita Cottages 3 times and have always enjoyed it. I am so glad the in/out time has changed, it made my last stay a more pleasant experience. It is a cute, comfortable place with nice staff. I appreciate the no alcohol policy and believe it adds to the family friendly environment. It is clean, quiet and the location absolutely cannot be beat. Beautiful beaches, great hiking, and nice restaurants within walking distance. Parking is the only challenge. I have gone prior to the May15 parking restrictions (permit only parking at that time) and have been able to find parking within a 1/2 a block from the hostel.
I was so happy to stay at the hostel. The only thing I would request is that with a reservation to be able to request a lower bunk. But I did OK. Loved meeting the people who were there the place was spotless I was very comfortable and enjoyed the recommendations about local food. I would come back in a heartbeat
Super cozy hostel in a great location. The team was super kind, and the owner was especially welcoming! Loved how it had a homey vibe to it, but still offered places to socialize and mingle with other guests. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, and the kitchen was spacious enough to cook without bumping elbows. I would absolutely stay again! 10/10 would recommend.
My stay at the Santa Cruz Hostel included all the girls in my family (3 generation) in which we rented the whole Johnson House. It was an amazing weekend. The staff were extremely friendly and outgoing, the house was clean and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to make our dinner, and other food items we brought. The location was quiet and perfect for walking everywhere; you did not need a car. We did not run into any parking issues due to the time of year we were there (October) but make sure you are aware of any issues you may have. I would DEFINITELY stay there again!
