Residence Inn by Marriott Alexandria Old Town South at Carlyle

Good hotel... Good service... Friendly desk personnel. Helpful at checkin! Clean and comfortable. The location is close to some fun places and pretty close to a metro so that you can walk to the station. There are decently close restaurants for ease of walking as well but not so far it's a hike. The breakfast service is good with lots of fresh options. Overall great value for the overall price and would highly recommend.

We were charged $150 for a bottled water. This also happened to our friend! Avoid this hotel! We had an amazing stay. One our our friends said,” Did you hear them say they charged $150 for anything used out of the room?” We thought she was crazy because we didn’t hear that. She was right! We drank a bottled water and was charged $150 to our credit card!

This was a last minute stay as we were traveling through the state. We booked, and checked in. Check in was so fast! There was a shortage of wash towels but it didn’t bother us too much. From the elevator you cannot get past the lobby without a room key which is so brilliant in regards to safety. Gentleman who checked us in was respectful and kind. We got a one bedroom suite and when we walked into the room soft spa like music was playing and it was so relaxing. The bathroom is a bit on the smaller side but it was clean and water pressure was nice. We were not expecting a corner room but the panoramic view is absolutely incredible especially during sunrise. The dishes provided were clean, sheets were clean. There is an ice maker in the fridge so that was wonderful. Location is quite nice.

The staff was nice. Breakfast was ok nothing crazy and pretty basic. They charge you $40 a night for parking which is not advertised. Also the life waters in the room they provide are $8 ea which is insane. Our toilet was clogged when we got there and there was blood on the bathroom floor. On top of it all I attempted to call to see if they had our crib ready and they don’t have a front desk number that is easily accessible and they the lady hung up. We got there and the crib took 30 minutes to get to the room. Overall the experience seemed like something I would get out of a lower end hotel or motel.

This hotel is serviceable. It's close to the Metro which is very handy. Other than that, it's nothing to write home about. It's a little dingy, dated, and things are usually broken. But I work nearby so it is very convenient when I come into town. However, they have deceptive billing practices. They have more than once charged me for things I did not spend. The first time it was for market purchases. I called and asked what those were for and they tried to argue with me but ended up refunding me for the foods I did not consume. The second time, I had a reservation and cancelled it well before the timeframe of when I would be charged. I ended up re-booking and using points. I saw a $147 charge on my credit card that I did not recognize and called to inquire what the charge was and was told
