Red Roof Inn Springfield, IL

We were exhausted from loading the U-Haul. We arrived at the hotel at 1:30am tired and ready to get a decent night’s sleep. Boy were we wrong. To start, the door didn’t have a room number. The room was awful. There were cigarette burns in the sheets and blankets. There was also dirt on the sheets. The bathtub was disgusting. We slept with our clothes on for fear what might be on the linens. The door wouldn’t lock. Thank goodness I put the hook on the door. When we woke up the door was open about 1/2 inch. To make things better, it was snowing outside. The owners didn’t care at all.

Roaches! Very dirty! Floor covered in crumbs and debris and a digesting film on carpet! The phone even still had chip crumbs all over it. Went to front desk after the first roach to get another room in another building, nope no way had 2 be 2 rooms down. He said it was "the good room". Same outcome. Just a heads up.

Positive: Easy access off the main road with ample parking Negative: The room smelled like cigarette smoke, which I was informed it happens from guests smoking outside their rooms and the crack in the door allows the air into the room, mold on the shower curtain, no smoke detector, and stains in multiple places.

The staff is courteous. A little slow on replacing used towels and sheets I am not sure of the day they collect the dirty linen and how often your dirty linen is exchanged. I thought each time you renewed staying in the room you would be given clean linen and the dirty linen was picked up. Not the case still waiting on clean linen but the dirty linen and towels were picked up.

Staff was friendly,neighbors seem chill. It was a last minute booking and super affordable so I can't be mad but there is a cockroach issue at least on the ground floor where we're staying. It's understandable and I'm not mad, but definitely could be better controlled. But if your deathly afraid of roaches it's something to be aware of. Tbh I'll be sleeping with the lights on lol
