Red Roof Inn Birmingham South

I was a little worried about what I would find since the price was very affordable. I received a warm, attentive, and professional welcome at check-in. The room, without carpet, had a very nice appearance and everything was in order. The bed was comfortable. The shower could have been a little hotter, but for this time of year it was okay. The cleanliness, by my standards, could have been a bit more thorough. The location was perfect. Overall, considering everything, it was a good choice.

Positive: For the price, the room was clean, the bed was semi-comfortable, there was plenty of hot water (and it was evident that it was water-softener-treated), and it was well-lit. Negative: There was a fellow pretty much right outside my door smoking weed and talking on the phone at the top of his voice late at night. After having a civil discussion with him, he moved on. I very rarely give a bad review on anything but this was terrible. We traveled for a one night stay for a volleyball tournament so it did not have to be anything fancy. First room the AC did not work and I tried everything and it would not even cut on. Room was not clean. There was a stain on the bedspread, vent in bathroom was caked with dust and shower head was nasty. Called downstairs to ask them if there was a trick with the air and he told me he would move my rooms. Was given another room and opened the door to it and the smell that hit me and my two children was horrible. Light switch would not work so went to the bed to turn on the lamp. This location defies the image of Red Roof Inn in a good way. It's all renovated rooms so everything seems new. There is no wear and tear on the furniture or floor. The WiFi speeds were good. The mattress was firm and the A/C worked great. The toilet and shower were not grimey and gross. It was pretty quiet at night. The only real downside is the parking can get crowded so you might not get a parking spot right in front of your room. The front desk clerks were very friendly and professional. There is also a cool grotto behind the hotel and it gives the place a very cozy nature feel.

I am currently staying at Red Roof Inn in Birmingham, and this has been one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. First, the cleanliness is unacceptable. The bed sheets were visibly dirty with stains on them (see attached photos). This is the most basic standard for any hotel, and they failed at it. Second, I reserved a room for 3 people, which was supposed to have 2 double beds. What we received was the smallest “double” bed I’ve ever seen. There is absolutely no way this room comfortably fits 3 people. It feels misleading compared to what was advertised. When I went to the front desk to ask for a solution, I even offered to pay for an extra bed, but they refused and said the only option was to pay for an entirely separate room.
