They say it’s the best free car camping spot in the continental US and I’m sure it’s top ten. Trust me, I’ve been to most the states and camped in half. You’ll probably want a 4x4 or at least an AWD with decent clearance. Just go slow and watch those berms. There’s a few dispersed spots, but I think I found the best one. If you find it, you’ll know. Bring lots of water, sun protection, good food, maybe some beer or wine and some comfortable chairs. I’d recommend spending at least two nights, but that’s on you.
We went up here for a day trail off road run, have lunch and hang out for a bit. veiws were amazing from bottom to top and top to bottom. Trail was a little loose, but nothing to have concern for. The top of the ridge was absolutely clean, thanks to everyone that did thier part and packed out what they packed in. Definitely worth the drive down scenic highway 1, and the scenic drive through the mountains to get to Prewitt Ridge. Not as crowded as we were expecting that day which was a plus. Highly reccomend to make a trip up there to see the stunning views or camp out.
One of the most epic campsites in the lower 48. It's definitely gotten more crowded over the years, particularly in the weekend and during the summer, but it's still absolutely incredible. Be sure to bring a lot of water and *do not* have any campfires after winter.
Epic views. Very exposed. Lots of bees. We stayed for two days and had an amazing time. Primitive camping with no services, pack out what you pack in.
Good spot, once you get off highway one expect 25 mins uphill followed by another 20-25 mins rough dirt road, the end you will see a huge steep downhill with huge holes which is bad. I barely made it with my stander height 2 wheel drive FJ cruiser(I know), but I also never off-road so. Decent high clearance I think is very necessary.(only if you wanna make it to the very end) Flies are annoying but no big deal once it gets dark. So yeah, rough drive but the view is amazing👍
