It's a changing hike that just keeps getting better. I started at the campground and hiked in. The views are amazing, the trail is narrow but once you get to the end its all worth it. The campground had a soft floor. A river with fresh water and a fire pit. I highly recommend this as a day trip or a weekend getaway.
Nice lil campground. The creek looks dry but running water can be found farther upstream. It's large enough for lots of groups, which is good, because there are often lots of people there.
Awesome place to camp! If you park at the Kriks Creek campground, it’s exactly a 5 mile hike in. When I went, ther were about 5 other groups in the area, but still all very spread out. Did hike up to the Peak, which is a VERY elevated hike. If you go, please bring water and go early in the morning - as well as lots of puma and bear dropping so be on the lookout.
Popular beyond belief. The area easily accommodates a large volume of campers with many small footprints and a few larger areas for groups. Water is plentiful upstream of the camp areas, and currently there are no campfire restrictions. A state campfire permit is required for all fire and stove usage. Ventana wilderness is dog friendly. Be respectful of others, leashing your dog when necessary. Be sure to either bury your dog poop 6" deep at least 100' from trail, campsites and water or carry it out.
Vicente Flat Trail head is a difficult climb from Highway 1 but totally do-able if you take it slow and take lots of breaks. It is a five mile hike to Vicente Flats Campground, three miles going up along the Pacific Coast then two miles east (inland). Once you arrive to Vicente Flats Campground there are plenty of water sources around the camp (we went May 0f 2019). To anyone else planning a first time trip to Vicente Flats- Arrive early as all the good spots gets taken early in the day. But there are plenty of spots for all. If you are a social hiker you will like this camp ground as this place has a good water source so it is highly used and trafficked. Bring mosquito repellent and a head net.
