Great rustic site. More trees on the generator side. Over 100 steps down to the beach. A short walk to thr trails to see 3 waterfalls. No where for a camper to get potable water we had to go to union bay for water before hand. There is a well pump back by the tent sites. We were in the inside of the circle on the generator side. Firewood if they had it was $8 , down the road was $5-$10. Nothing close for souvenirs have to go over by visitor center/ union bay area for that. No cell service once in a while you may see a glimmer. 2 vault toilets Beautiful 😍 loved every min.
10 0ut of 10 , for great views, make sure you have plenty of gas. Mountain roads are rough. Make sure you have a spare. There is no signal for regular cell phones on the mountain for most phone companies. Great way to unplug and enjoy nature. I recommend going to Lake of the Clouds and Presque Isle and the tower if it's open. Make sure you go to the Park Center and pick up a day pass they also have other passes available for the year in order to be able to visit the mountain. You need the state park pass.
It's the Porkies. Beautiful no matter where you are. The waterfalls, the hiking and lake Superior sunsets. Found Chanterelles and king Bolete mushrooms. Delicious. Ate Thimbleberries. Tart! Swam in the black river! My dog gets zoomies from waterfalls. It was another great camping trip to the Porkies.
Beautiful views, & very nice walking paths. Definitely a must see!
We rolled in on a Sunday afternoon and got the last spot. Campsites practically on top of each other, no privacy or trees. Alot of people with reservations, never showed up, so the good spots were empty. I can saw the waterfalls made it worth it! There are few there and many, many stairs to get to them, also a cool bridge. You can also hike to the river mouth and fish. There are also stairs that lead right to the lake, you can sit on the rocks and watch the sunset right off the water, its amazing!! Out houses were clean and the girl was sanitizing the door handles and toilets!! There is a water pump.
