Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Urbandale/Des Moines

Positive: Staff was very friendly and breakfast was fresh. Negative: It is older that it appears in the pictures. Our room was humid in addition to our AC running.

I would give ZERO stars if that was possible. My partner and I checked in here after being on the road for 10 hours. We were in our room maybe 5 minutes when I noticed a bug crawling out of the wood on the counters in the “kitchen” area. We saw two more bugs and immediately left. It looked like roaches… but not 100% sure. The person at the front desk was very apologetic and ensured the hotel was clean but I couldn’t unsee what I saw. I wish I would have read the reviews before booking because it looks like they are known for being dirty, bugs, and disgusting breakfast. We went to the Hilton down the street- only $20 more and WAY CLEANER! Stay at the Microtel in Urbandale at your own risk!!!!

My husband and I spent the night of Oct 22, 2025 at Microtel. I'd booked a room with one queen bed, but was upgraded at no extra charge to a suite with one queen bed. The room looked true to photos (see photos 5 and 6 of 26 in the photos on the website of rooms/suites). The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. We had no issues. I found the bed comfy. Breakfast was typical fare, breads/muffins, cereal, fruit etc. As we were on a road trip, we actually had food with us, so I chose to fix myself something in the room (there was a microwave, frig, and sink, plus a small table to eat at.) Staff at front desk were welcoming and helpful. Location was close to several fast food places (Arby's, Culver's). and area felt safe and was quiet.|I would stay here again.

Service was okay. The staff was pleasant. The rooms and lobby is dated. Leaking ceiling above door entry. The hotel is very open. No trees lining the sidewalk or parking. The front faces another hotel and the back side has another hotel and the room windows facing the hotel meaning no view or privacy. The TV was roughly the size of a computer monitor. The bathroom exhaust fan not working. The shower curtain was dingy and ripped. The tub is stained. The shower saturated the floor when used. The toilet seat is not properly mounted to the bowl. The food was undesirable. The chairs would be on the table while breakfast is served making it unpleasant atmosphere to eat or relax outside of of the room. They definitely need to do better with the breakfast. Poor lighting in the room. The air condit

This hotel was very nice the rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. It had the necessary items required by a traveler, such as a microwave, a fridge and a coffee maker. It had a guest laundry and also provided a decent breakfast. it did have a flaw in that daily room servicing was not offered. It had a bar restaurant nearby which is always handy.
