Matador Motel

Our group leader had selected this motel, and after reading reviews, we almost cancelled our reservation. But the price was right. We had room 48, which was toward the back of the motel, down the side yard. The room size was adequate, with a king size bed. The bathroom was small, and had some broken tiles and a weird shower head. The shower tiles were stained, but clean. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The towels were the tiniest towels I have ever had in a motel. Coffee was available at Starbuck's next door, since the office didn't open earlier enough to partake of their coffee.||If you must have an up to date motel, don't stay here. But if you want a good deal, like charm and nice people, the Matador is satisfactory.

The manager Carrie is just the kindest person in the world. Such a great stay. This was my home for a while after my house recently burned down and I couldn't have been in a better place. Lots of really awesome people that were staying there the whole time I was, so great neighbors and a safe place to be. Didn't see any funny business either, lol. But seriously, thank you Carrie for talking with me and having such a great heart and giving me some ideas do help me get back on my feet. Best prices I could find in Chico, too. Cheers!

What a great deal! We loved our sweet room with the the tile floor, huge closet and old fashioned dressing table area. The bathrooms were original retro with beautiful tile. The pool was lovely and surrounded by big palm trees - they even had a couple of floaties which was great. It was so hot in Chico but our room was air conditioned and right across from the pool. Please don't change a thing here. Best $60 room we ever had.

The Matador attracted us when driving by with its mexican style. So we turned around and booked a room. We like the architecture and the style with colored tiles at the walls and floor tiles as well that kept the room cool. It is really old, has a minimum of Equipment, some tiles are broken, the shower is dripping and you cannot switch off the a/c. But it is really very clean, the people are so friendly and they have a pool. And the beds are new and very comfortable. I think it was a good deal for 66 $. we stayed for 2 nights. It is something special compared to faceless hotel chains.

I haven't stayed here so can't really comment on any personal experience but my friend was staying here after being evacuated from Paradise and they treated him well and he was happy with the room. I would have given them five stars but he did say they had electrical problems causing his heater not to work properly. So it's not the best place in town but friendly and clean. It's also not as expensive as others so it all works out.
