This is a boutique hotel on a fairly quiet block in a good location. The front desk was very warm and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable. Maybe could use a little bit of spruce up here and there but nothing so major. Continental breakfast was offered daily and was well done there was also complementary tea, coffee and cookies. Overall, our stay was really pleasant and we would recommend for other grown ups looking for a nice stay in Newport.
Beautiful historic property. The location is close to everything in town. The inn has free parking too. The rooms were big and clean. The staff was very friendly and informative. The breakfast was great! The inn was actually the town jail before being renovated. I would highly recommend staying at the inn.
Perfect location and nice rooms. The hotel is very clean and well taken care of. It is within walking distance of restaurants, shopping and wharfs. The mansions are a very short drive (parking is available at all of the mansions). Light breakfast was included (oatmeal, toast, fruit etc.). Complimentary cookies and coffee in the afternoon too. All of that said, the real difference is the staff. Everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly. They are a great team!
Stayed at JHI for Newport jazz fest. The location is great, and the price was reasonable. The staff was also very nice. We had bikes with us so were happy to have a bike rack where we could lock our bikes. The room was nice, but for some reason we could not shut the heat – in August!! Beware there is no elevator – plus there are about 5-6 steps to enter the building.||BUT – they do not provide daily housekeeping, yet they leave a tip envelope for the housekeeping staff in the room. I found that very obnoxious – you don’t provide a service, but you ask your customers to give a tip. If your business model is no daily service, then 1) state that clearly on the website, and 2) pay your staff more and don’t ask your customers to leave a tip!
We visited the Jailhouse during July 4th weekend. It's a fun, kind of quirky place to stay. The hallways and rooms have various jail-themed hardware and old structural elements, such as wooden beams. The room we had on the third floor was much bigger than expected. For our 3-night stay, maid service was not available, but that was fine with us. The bed was comfortable (actually had 2 beds but didn't try the other one) and the bathroom was reasonably modern. Some of the furniture could use some updating and you can sometimes hear your neighbors, but otherwise the rooms were fine. Our room had windows, but essentially no view of anything noteworthy.||The location of the Jailhouse is great. Park your car and don't move it again for as long as you're doing things in town.
