Independence Stay Hotel & Long Term Suites

Just stayed here! I love the stocked kitchen ready for your long term stay! Room was VERY CLEAN, comfortable bed, and GREAT SIZED TUB! Staff was friendly and also nice to our pup who we brought with us! We did not get a chance to hit the trails but staff informed us of just how close they are! Don't forget to ask the front desk about your coupon for the MINE SHAFT right next door! It was a great easy bite to eat!

The good: Very clean and quiet. Nice kitchenette with a cooktop, small fridge and microwave. Comfortable beds. Very friendly and helpful staff. The bad: Very expensive for what you get. Other than the kitchenette, it’s a basic hotel room. No pool or breakfast provided. No elevator, so that may be an issue if you are elderly, disabled or have small children. Also, there are several weed stores within walking distance, and some of the travelers will congregate around the side entrance to smoke, so unless you want a contact high that may be an issue for some as well. |All things considered, I would not return. Not at $265 per night.

Independence Stay in Houghton MI is a exceptional hotel. Our stay was perfect beginning to end. Special thanks to Rebekah who was a true delight to talk to and she gave us wonderful stories about growing up in the areas and suggested some things that were so enjoyable. Her hospitality was so very sweet. The hotel is very well maintained and close to everything. The city of Houghton is a little treasure. The hotel is only 2 stories so there is no elevator but stairs were not bad to navigate if you are able to do so but if you have issues be advised. The hotel doesn't have a pool but does have a exercise room. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Housekeeping was on point. Extremely Disappointing Experience – No Overnight Staff Despite 24/7 Listing I booked this hotel very late at night after my tire blew out while driving alone from Copper Harbor to Houghton. I was exhausted, dirty, and just wanted a safe place to rest. Their listing clearly stated they had 24/7 front desk service and a 9.4 rating, so I felt confident booking. When I arrived a little after midnight, there was a sign on the door saying the front desk staff had left for the night and to call another number for emergencies. That number connected me to an entirely different hotel under the same ownership. They said a manager would come to check me in. About 15 minutes later, a woman arrived — clearly woken up — and made it obvious she was irritated. I immediately apologized and explained that

Very comfortable and clean room, and loved the local food recommendations from the staff at the front desk! We used that! We stayed on a Saturday night and it was totally quiet. We were comfortably asleep around 10pm. Only down side: No elevator, so we had to drag our luggage up one flight of stairs to our room on the 2nd floor. Bonus feature of this hotel: Our room had beautiful local art (photography) of the surrounding community. Love it when a hotel embraces the community it's in.
