Hyatt Place Kansas City/Overland Park/Metcalf

As a Hyatt Globalist who clocks in 80+ nights a year for business travel, and as of February 12th already has 23 Qualifying Nights under his belt… was surprised when he received zero housekeeping services for two (2) days in a row, despite requesting daily service upon check-in (and verifying with the front desk staff that it did indeed state that daily housekeeping was requested). After informing the front desk staff, was told that housekeeping had left for the day and there was nothing they could do. They didn’t offer any Hyatt points, they didn’t offer a free drink coupon at the bar, they didn’t offer jack shit. What they did do was hand me some towels and linens along with a trash bag and told me to do it all myself. When I asked if I could leave my rotting leftover dinner trash outs

The hotel is freaking amazing. It's so comfortable and the staff is approachable and genuine. You can tell this is a well run, secure and inviting hotel from the moment you step inside. I like how they actually remember your name, how do they do that? Breakfast is way better than other chain hotels AND they have a mini Starbucks, totally worth the splurge in the morning. I stay at a lot of hotels and this one is a gem.

Hyatt Globalist perspective: Hotel is sub-par overall. Yes, it was recently renovated and the rooms appear nice. However, lots of minor issues indicate management is implementing cost-savings and ignoring the details. Cons: room had a totally loose sink faucet, as if a plumber never actually tightened down the retaining nut. Bed was far too firm and super uncomfortable. This Hyatt went with the square couch-style pillows that are pretty flat and low quality. Ultimately this meant a terrible night sleep (w/ sleep scores in the 40s rather than a typical 75 for a hotel room). My allergies were acting up indicating possible mold issues in the room. We stayed for multiple days over Thanksgiving, and were impressed by the consistent good service Yash provided at the front desk. As well, the housekeeping team, with Marcela (?) were flawless - which is often where a lot of lodging falls short. Breakfast service could have been more courteous and varied, though there were a number of options to have something different each day. One day was a snow day and it was understandably closed, but the MOD could have easily put in more effort to accommodate guests that morning. Overall, we'd recommend anyone visiting the area stay here and expect they'd receive an excellent overall experience.
