Howard Johnson by Wyndham San Marcos

Terrible experience at Howard Johnson by Wyndham San Marcos. The food was awful, low quality, and not worth it at all. On top of that, they charged me $50 for no reason — nobody could explain why. It feels like they just keep your deposit. This hotel chain has very poor standards. Old rooms, bad service, and hidden charges. I will never stay at this hotel again, and I strongly advise everyone to stay away. Very bad quality. Very dishonest. Do NOT recommend to anyone.

This might be my favorite motel that I’ve ever stayed at. It’s clean. The staff is friendly and it’s quiet. Nobody comes to bother you. They serve a cold breakfast of cereal and like muffins and bagels in the morning. The rooms are bad ass. The shower is nice and the water pressure is terrific. I saw zero bugs in the room, which is crazy for a motel. I’ve stayed in a lot of motels in this town and this is hands-down no competition the best one we’ve stayed at. My only complaint is that I booked through a third-party app so I did not know that there was going to be a $50 deposit and it was supposed to be cash but the guy let me use my card and I was able to get the money together for it that night so it wasn’t a huge deal, especially because they actually refunded me the deposit the next d

Positive: Location was great for our purposes. Convenient access off and onto highway. Negative: Close to highway also meant lots of vehicle noise at night. Able to run continuous fan to muffle for better sleep.

We had a wonderful stay at sure stay hotel ! The location was perfect, with easy access to attractions and restaurants. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Rooms are new , updated and super clean. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again! Highly recommended!

Looks are very deceiving as are the reviews. I booked a NONSMOKING room and it shows on my booking as such. The room smelled like someone smoked 6 packs right before I walked in. It was so bad it saturated my clothes in my suitcase. There were burn holes in the sheets, what looked like patched bullet holes almost, mystery stains on the lounge chair. I stayed one night out of 3 and I’m currently fighting for a refund as I absolutely did not feel safe or comfortable staying there. I am DEEPLY disappointed in the quality and even customer service of the “hotel.”
