Howard Johnson by Wyndham Gananoque

We stayed one night at Howard Johnson by Wyndham Gananoque while travelling from Toronto and had a comfortable, pleasant experience overall. We completed the online check-in, and the front desk staff were very friendly and welcoming with a nice chat on arrival. Our room had a cozy king bed with good-quality sheets, and the heater worked very well during the winter stay. The TV included streaming apps, Wi-Fi was reliable, and the water pressure in the bathroom was strong. Towels and toiletries were fairly standard but perfectly adequate. Breakfast was quite minimal — coffee from a machine along with muffins, granola bars, and yogurt — so don’t expect a full spread. The room was very spacious and clean. Everything felt well taken care of, and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful, which made the stay even more enjoyable. I’d definitely come back again!

Rooms are clean and updated. Dove brand shampoo and soap included which is nice. Microwave and fridge makes it convenient for families to have some snacks in room. Pool area , chairs and fence are dilapidated. Pool water was clean. Convenient location. Walking distance to downtown and sites....3 min easy drive down one road to Kingstons downtown. |Now for the bad: hotel listing says "breakfast included" however its not really breakfast....just snacks....coffee was good. But there was only bananas, packaged cheap granola bars and cheap celo-packaged muffins. Juice boxes and some yogurt. Our stay was extremely disappointing. Upon arrival, staff could not locate our reservation and spent a significant amount of time trying to find it. The room itself was not clean — it was dusty, the beds were very hard, the towels had visible stains, and the bathtub was dirty and stained. To make matters worse, despite checkout being at 11:00 a.m., housekeeping knocked on our door around 10:00 a.m. wanting to clean the room, which was frustrating given the condition the room was in when we arrived. This experience did not meet basic cleanliness or service expectations and is not what I would expect from a Howard Johnson.

I had a prepaid reservation for today that I had booked and paid for through Expedia. Unfortunately the airline cancelled my flight last minute and now has me flying in the next day. We are flying into Toronto but driving through to Ottawa so the hotels location was perfect to stay over at. Given we are now going to be a day late we will need to drive straight through to Ottawa now. I spoke directly to Jessica Warren both directly and through Expedia and I have to say I had the best customer service experience I’ve had in a long time. Even though it was past the free cancellation deadline she was willing to change the reservation at no charge, but when she found out we were no longer able to stay at all she gave us a full refund when they were not required to do so.
