Colonial Resort- 1000 Islands

Worst hotel EVER. I regret trying to save a few dollars because it almost cost me a fortune in extermination fees! We noticed German cockroaches crawling not only on the bed, but up the wall and around the window. (We fell right asleep the first night so not sure if there were any then, but I am sure there were.) We left immediately after spotting them! Owner would not refund our second night, of course. I told him that I would notify the health unit & he did not care one whit. He said I declined an alternate room, so no refund. I’m pretty sure cockroaches do not recognize boundaries. Re: Owner’s reply. We used to stay here when I was a kid I remember it being much more posh as we loved the swimming pool. Unfortunately it looks like it has remained unchanged since the early 80s. Everything is quite rundown the only benefit is its a quiet locatio. The air conditioner was horribly noisy and we were unable to regulate where it was blowing as it was mounted in a window at the back of the room blowing directly on the bed. The only solution was to close the curtains over it. The toilet plugged up immediately and we required a plunger which was not provided in the room. The shower did not work properly the faucet handles were on backwards and upside down so hot water was cold cold water was hot and to get it to come on and you had to screw the handle outwards. This resort could be very nice with some work and TLC. On arrival my first thought was that pictures I had seen of the place must have been photoshopped. We travelled with friends who were also perplexed. The rooms appeared to be clean until I witnessed the male housekeeper going into at least 10 rooms using the same floor wet swiffer using the same wet pad.||The outdoor pool could be so nice with some paint and fixing the huge cracks, the deck is made of 4X4 boards which are a challenge as many were warped or loose and would pop up when stepped on, landscaping consists of overgrown weeds.||The outdoor activities that are listed either did not exist or so overgrown are not usuable (tennis court nasty)||Breakfast is very sparse, there are some restaurants not far away thank goodness.|

Absolutley terrible Our room was nothing like the photos on Expedia when we booked. Smelly room and just filthy. Couldn't see tv from the bed. Paint peeling off all the walls and very little cauking around the tub and that's why the stink is there mold and mildew. No continental breakfast and unfriendly staff. Bathroom sink and tub had dead flies in them. Do not recommend this place.

Had stayed in this hotel in the past, and enjoyed our stay. Ironically we got the same room again. We were saddened to see the decay over the past few years. The room had a funky odour and was very damp. There was a coating of dew on the inside of the windows int the morning. Everything including our clothing was damp. There was what appeared to be mould in the windows and in the bathroom, including on the light fixtures over the bathroom sink. Unfortunately, we will be looking for other accommodations next time we are in the area.
