Homewood Suites by Hilton Portsmouth Downtown

The hotel is new and provided just what we needed for a couple of nights in Portsmouth. It is a 5-10 minute walk to downtown shops and restaurants. Just the location that we were looking for at a much better price than other nearby hotels.||The room was clean, neat, and modern. Out temperature control and shower worked great. The bed was comfortable. The small kitchen area has a large fridge, a microwave, sink, and cook top.||The exercise facility was clean and well equipped. The complimentary breakfast was ample, good quality for a chain hotel, and had a decent variety of foods. The reception area was clean and the staff was welcoming. Attempted to stay here Valentines day weekend, Waited 30 plus mins in line at check-in to be told us and others couldn't stay in this hotel, Without specific reason. No email or phone call prior to this. Surprised us completely. Relocated us to a cheaper/ low quality hotel 8mins away and charged us the same rate. Attempted to call the manager multiple days who doesn't respond or return Voicemails. I'm looking for an appropriate explanation and to be compensated for this inconvenience and uncomparable stay. I will keep trying to contact this manger and take all steps on all platforms to help others know what they possibly in for staying or dealing with any issues at this hotel.

This is a new hotel in downtown Portsmouth, and the location is great with nice rooms. However, my experience with their service and cleanliness was highly disappointing. I checked in online on the check-in day, which seemed to go through successfully, but arrived a day late due to terrible weather causing flight cancellations. When I went to get my key, I found out they'd canceled my room without calling or texting, and said they didn't have a room available for my dates. I took the available room for a shorter timeframe, and when I arrived in the room, the garbage from the previous occupant was still all there, with their rotting food in the kitchen garbage. We've stayed at many hotels in Portsmouth, but this was the best so far. Nice to have all the goodies like full size fridge, and all kitchen amenities. The room was very clean and everything worked as it should. Front dest help was amazing and when asked for extra pillows, immediate.

The hotel is very modern looking and clean with a beautiful lobby that included a fireplace. A big plus was having a parking garage next door to the hotel that only charged $1 per hour which is cheap considering everywhere else was $70+ and there is only street parking throughout downtown Portsmouth. The hotel room was smaller than I expected, the king size bed was uncomfortable, the bathroom was very small as well. The room included a full sized refrigerator, microwave, kitchen sink, and a dishwasher, which is sort of unnecessary unless you're staying for a week or more. The biggest problem with the room was the floor, it was sharp where the carpet meets the hard wood. The staples weren't visible because they were in the carpet. I had to wear my shoes in the room.
