Holiday Inn Express & Suites Valparaiso, an IHG Hotel

Positive: Like the convenience of the proximity to our family. Negative: Check in was slower than expected due to some glitch with the system. I smelled marijua and cigarette smoke scent several times while staying at the hotel.

I've been traveling all week and this was by far the best place to stay. Lots of people were checking in when I arrived so my room was upgraded since I'm a rewards member. They also gave me a cold bottle of water which was really appreciated since I wasn't going out again for a while. Rooms were very nice and modern. Shower did not have a limit for the hot water so my shoulder muscles were able to relax after getting tense from driving. The woman tending the breakfast area was friendly and energetic. They had packets of cream cheese for the bagels, which is great because even if they get frozen it's easy to thaw with your hands as opposed to the cream cheese cups. Very very pleased with everything.

I stayed here at the Valparaiso location, from Sunday 9/28 through Friday 10/03/2025, while I was working in the area. The staff was friendly and the Hotel was clean. The Room had everything I needed. There was plenty of hot water with good water pressure. The bed and pillows slept well. Breakfast is supposed to start at 6:30 am, but there were items available, before that to grab for early workers. There was plenty of roomy parking. I will stay here again when I am in the area

The good. - Girl at counter was very nice and treated me well.... The bad. - Room looked old and dirty, smelled like a wet animal when i turned the hvac system and the bathtub had a dead roach in it. I told a different lady at the counter when i checked out, she said a manager would call me. No call... Not the worst spot to crash but I wouldnt stay here again.

The only reason I didn't give this newly remodeled hotel 5 stars is because apparently the designated smoking g area is at the front door. We had to run a gauntlet of 6 smokers on both sides of the walkway to the front door through a cloud of smoke. The newly updated hotel is very nice! I wish the new design still had bedside drawers. The only drawers are 2 deep ones at floor level beneath the luggage shelf.
