Holiday Inn Express & Suites Santa Cruz, an IHG Hotel

It’s definitely an older hotel (not like hella old or anything just not a new new place). We got a pretty big room and I tell you, i’ve never had a room so big in my life! I could have a whole dance battle in the open area if i wanted to, it was great! Location is also good, a couple food spots literally right next to / across from it and within a 20min walk you’re at the downtown area. If i come back i’m definitely staying here again!!

Nice and clean and good/normal free breakfast. Smaller hotel than most with no little lounge for kids to have activities. The place was attractive. Our main problem were that the mattresses were not what we’re used to, at other Holiday Inns . The mattresses were stiffer (Normally they are more plush) and were very noisy noisy. Anytime anybody turned or moved or got up or laid down, it was extremely noisy and woke up everybody else. I don’t know if it was just the day we stayed, but there was a lot of noise up until almost midnight with people running up and down the hall . At Breakfast, other people complained about the noise as well. At one time the parking garage reed of marijuana and so did the elevators. Which, of course, is not fault of the hotel, unless it was their employees.

Not the best Holiday Inn and Suites experience. Just ok. Staff were nice. Felt safe enough but not sure about parking safety according to another guest who had something stolen and warned us. Bed was comfy and decent choices at breakfast. Hotel is pretty dated, gym under construction and no alternatives set up and pool closed for season. Staff was nice enough. Smell of Cannabis was often present in the hall ways I think from local workers staying there. Location is fine in town near restaurants. Coffee just ok. Nothing special. I wouldn't recommend it really. Not the worst, but just ok.

There is construction currently happening here and it's quite loud and disturbing (especially 9 am Sunday morning). Room was newly renovated, but the door needed adjustment (too hard and noisy to open), and the shower leaked (sliding door was installed improperly and the seal didn't seal). Breakfast was pretty disappointing. They served the same thing every other day over the four days we were there, and the only meat was sausage. The oatmeal was basically lumpy water. The juice and coffee were good. The pancake machine didn't cook them in the middle. Parking is underground. The staff is always available and very friendly. I would wait until construction was complete before staying there.

The location of Holiday Inn Express Santa Cruz is great, conveniently close to the city center and attractions. However, at over $300 per night for a room, the value for money is quite low. The rooms feel outdated, and the air conditioning is a window-mounted unit that makes a loud noise every time it starts, disturbing sleep. The furniture in the room is worn, and the sofa had food crumbs on it, which felt unclean. During breakfast, the dining area was overcrowded, and by 8 a.m., the food was completely gone. When I asked the kitchen staff when the food would be replenished, as we had already waited over 20 minutes, the staff member responded impatiently that she was busy and walked away, leaving a group of guests unable to eat.
