Holiday Inn Express & Suites Salem by IHG

We stayed here for a night last month and it was a very pleasant stay! From the phone call with a gentleman on staff the morning before we arrives to verify the parking situation (we arrived on the heels of a very bad ice storm, but the parking lot was plowed and cleared very well!), to checking in and out with 2 different ladies, everyone was very nice and gave some helpful info about the area, which has helped since we’re now residents. :) The hotel itself looks pretty Holiday Inn standard, has quality Dove toiletries, and there’s a gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains in some rooms (we opted for the mountain view) and in the breakfast seating area. The hotel shares an access road with a gas station and Burger King, which was great after being on the road for 12 hours, and not need

First of all, this is a descent Hotel. Facility is pretty nice, breakfast was good. The issue here is parking. This is a rural hotel. There is no reason for a $5 parking fee scam. I say scam because nothing on my reservation mentioned a parking fee. Neither does the app. When you arrive they charge you $5 extra (then they hide it as a miscellaneous fee on your bill)|I’m surprised IHG would allow this. If there is a parking fee it needs to be mentioned in the reservation confirmation. Other hotels routinely do this. See Hilton. Apparently it’s the hotel’s general manager that started this bogus plan. I will never stay at this Hotel again. There are plenty of other options for Holiday Inns in the Roanoke area. Very disappointed at this shady practice.

I had made a non refundable reservation at this location, but afterwards I learned that a blizzard was approaching and that if I did not leave a day earlier I would probably not be able to make it out at all. I therefore ended up arriving a day earlier than planned. The manager on duty, Jennifer, advised me that even though the reservation was supposed to be non refundable, if I called Super.com and told them that she had no objection to the cancellation, they would probably refund my booking anyway. I called Super.com, and they advised that they needed a specific email from the hotel, explaining the reason for the cancellation and including a signature. Jennifer spent a considerable amount of time preparing and sending that email, which saved me a great expense. I am very grateful to Jen

Positive: Beds were comfortable, room was spacious. Negative: Rooms weren't adequately soundproofed, so we heard people walking upstairs, people talking outside our window, and also heard people in the hallway very clearly. Anti-slip bumps in bath were sharp for little kids. No bacon at breakfast. Hotel seemed dingy

Had an amazing experience staying here. Rooms were nice and clean along with a wonderful view of the mountains from our room. Plenty of amenities were available in the hotel, except for the pool since that was closed off due to it being an outside pool. Breakfast was wonderful with plenty of options for food to choose from, along with two coffee machines in the lobby that made fresh cups of coffee on demand. Highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a comfortable place to stay at overnight. Lots of amenities and good quality service that make it worthwhile.
