Holiday Inn Express & Suites Charleston NE Mt Pleasant Us17 by IHG

We have stayed in a lot of holiday Inn express and they are decent for this level hotel. It may have been just an off weekend for the staff because there was a huge crowd of kids staying there for a baseball tournament. We were not part of that group. We were there for a wedding. The location was fine for our needs. The carpets in the halls were really trashy lots of debris that needed to be vacuumed. The bed was really hard (I did inquire about a mattress topper but they didn’t have). I asked for a blanket but they didn’t have. Our bathroom wasn’t super clean but it was updated. The battery in our door stopped working when we came back from breakfast after the first night and it took 40 minutes of a staff member trying to use coat hanger to open the door then another 45 to replace the

Came for both business and vacation - in this location the staff was welcoming, accommodations comfortable, and the price was very comparable to other similar local hotels. I was pleased with the condition of the room and the comfortable beds. Loved the bathroom configuration. Did not take advantage of the amenities, however, I checked them out, and appeared nice. The evening front desk ladies were a hoot!!! Loved talking with them. All-in-all a great hotel experience for a somewhat frequent traveler.

Could have been great, but was just ok. The lack of attention to the details make a difference. Our room was spacious and clean, a great start, but the blinds won't go up (see photo), the lamp in the corner (with the protective wrapping still on the shade) didn't work, the water pressure was so low that taking a shower or washing hands took twice the time that should be needed. The shower doors no longer open and close as the sliding mechanisms have worn out. These things added up to let you know that no one cares enough to find them or fix them. Overall we slept ok, and felt safe, which is the most important thing, but the place could be so much better with a handy man to fix the little things. Perfect for a one night stay. Seemingly clean. Easy booking. Nice room. We asked to stay away from the street which helps with noise but the heater/ac unit is a loud noise anyway. We brought our own organic breakfast, but for those who like hotel food, they’re provide what seems like a “nice” breakfast (artificial cereal, dead animals and pancakes). Loved the blackout shades and gym access. The bed was sunken in a bit in the edges so we fell into the bed hole a few times while co-sleeping with our toddler, but still comfy. Cava food nearby. Mall nearby. Beach 12 minutes away.

Fair warning: this is a long review, but it’s necessary. I have stayed at over 100 IHG properties across the country, and this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. Given the location of Mt. Pleasant, I expected a level of quality and professionalism that this property completely failed to deliver. We walked in to check-in, and we didn’t see any employees. Ok no problem, they are probably working on something in the back. After a few minutes, I walk to the other side of the desk, and there she was. Sitting down, on her phone. No problem, she probably didn’t hear us. She then asked if we were checking in. She didn’t look up. She didn’t stand up. She just sat there. I was in shock.
