Holiday Inn Express & Suites Cartersville by IHG

Do better Holiday Inn Express! Reserved king size room a week in advance, room 434. Checked in on 12 Dec at 10:40pm, went smooth. Arrived at room and 5 minutes later my Wife said she felt sick from a skunk like smell. As I walked in to the hallway, sure enough the smell was Marijuana emanating from the room across the hall. I went to the front desk to switch rooms (explained the dilemma) and we were switched to room 214. Arrived at 214 to find 2 queen beds. The bed closest to the door is bottomed out to the SPRINGS. The nice gentleman at the desk stated they were out of King size beds (could of told me that when you switched rooms for us). I have stayed at hundreds of IHG hotels throughout the country due to previous travel job. I always stayed with IHG and am a loyal customer. We stayed at this location a year ago. All was fine except someone was smoking pot close to us and we could smell it. Front office girl wouldn’t do anything about it. Also in the middle of the night someone set off the fire alarm. After asking the manager did call me. Apologized about the alarm but hadn’t been told about my other issue. Said he wanted this to not adversely reflect on them. I said it wouldn’t and would stay again. Well… we stayed again. The front desk gentleman didn’t even smile and was not welcoming. Didn’t acknowledge my IHG status. Mixed review on this one. Staff was friendly and it seemed pretty clean. Beds were very comfy and the refrig was cold when we arrived so that was nice. Downfall is that the pool was closed (wasn't when we booked) and they just posted it recently so they wouldn't discount our rooms. Not a lot around the hotel but with a 10 min drive there is. The U turn you have to make to get into the lot is a pain but the left turn out of the gas station (shares a drive) is almost impossible. It's a couple minutes longer to go the opposite direction and turn around if you want to go left. For the area and compared to other hotels that our group stayed at, this place sounded like one of the better options. Still - it was disappointing regarding the pool and location. Hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. Location of the hotel is GREAT!! The bed/bedding was extremely comfortable. The room and bathroom was very spacious. The hotel itself was very clean and smelled amazing!! As soon as I walked in I noticed the smell. Not your typical "hotel smell." The check in process was easy. Would highly recommend this hotel to all my family and friends.

Check-in was fast and the receptionist working at night on 10/3 was really friendly. Hotel is newer and in a convenient location to the highway. Upon entering the room, I did notice a bit of a musty smell, but it seemed to lessen once I cooled the room off. Also, the bathroom sink in Room 411 was very very slow to drain and would have overflowed after a minute or so of continuously running water if you didn’t notice. I raised the stopper up and down a few times to try and clear it, which did help some, but probably needs maintenance. Bed was comfortable and room was spacious. Breakfast the next morning was good and had fresh food rotated in. Overall, a good experience and I’d stay again if I was ever in the area.
