Gorda Springs Resort

This is a beautiful place with amazing ocean views. The service is great, and the food is good. The staff members are super friendly and amazing people.

This review is long overdue since we stayed in May 2025 but it was such a special experience I thought better late than never. My husband and I were bicycling to Big Sur from Los Angeles and we had difficulty finding lodging north of San Simeon. The Gorda Springs Resort’s website was down at the time and it took some digging to get a current phone number, but finally we were able to make a reservation and boy, are we glad we did. We didn’t realize just how rugged the coast would be above the Elephant Seal Vista in San Simeon. We were hit with head winds that were so strong we couldn’t make progress on the bikes. We stayed in the Redwood house which had a great sitting area and a kitchenette with a large new refrigerator. There was a clear view of the ocean and we could hear the sea lions barking. The cabins are rustic and charming. We were there on an unusually hot day and the staff went out of their way to bring a portable A/C to our room. Everyone was friendly, including the staff at the restaurant.

I decided to stay here last minute after camping my previous four nights. I had a great dinner at the restaurant, fish and chips and a beer, and booked a room for the night. I did not stay in the cabins but rather in the regular rooms above the main building. Staff were super friendly and accommodating, and the hotel is in such a fantastic location. From the little walkway/balcony in front of the room you can see the huge expanse of the Pacific, with the bark of seals and sea lions hanging out on the rock just offshore. The room was nice enough, albeit a bit dated. The room lacked a microwave or TV, but had a comfy bed. After camping for most of the week a room with a bed and shower was a welcome change. Convenient with Highway 1 closure to Big Sir, restaurant there to enjoy. Very cozy cabin with frig, coffee tea kettle. Overlooking ocean and walking grounds. Liked the plush couches of our Redwood cabin, which was comfortable.
