Garner Hotel Brookings by IHG

Rooms can were clean, but poorly renovated. Furnace sounded like a vehicle starting every half hour. Hard to sleep with a 30 minute unwanted alarm. Door to the room had an inch gap under it. Could hear EVERYTHING in hallway. Seemed like they put the wrong door for the opening because dead bolt didn’t have a hole for it to go into and door wouldn’t latch. Door to bathroom didn’t latch unless you pushed shut hard. Pool area and pool were super cold. Hot tub was how cold the pool normally should be. We booked so our kids could use the slide and pool but slide was shut down. Realistically it was too cold to use the slide anyway. Probably should’ve asked for our money back and left. Told the worker and she was super nice and sounded concerned about the problems but realistically unless the owne

This property has recently rebranded into a new IHG brand, Garner. I had a very pleasant stay here. Spacious, well appointed room, and very comfortable beds with larger pillows (the typical IHG ones). Checked in late in the evening but was met with a smile and courteous service. The breakfast I found to be quite good, especially considering that Garner is classified as a midscale brand. I particularly enjoyed the coffee from Costa. Having prepared oatmeal is also a nice touch. Well done, Team Garner!

Hotel was booked after calling front desk. She did not mention that it was under construction. The room had pieces of tile baseboard not attached so they fell down. There was no grout in tile and around corners no attempt at making them match. Looked like a 2nd grader did the work. The bathroom needed a bit more scrub and caulking cleaned or removed. The mattress was ok. Hard to regulate the temp in the room as had the old style a/c/heater. Some furniture had been updated. Paint on walls was done poorly and slopped onto trim and tile. The stairwell and halls were full of construction dust and dirty. When I mentioned it to asst manager in the morning about the room she was rude and didn’t care. It was a mess. The young man at checkin was upset that we asked to see the room

Pool slide wasn't working water was cold hot tub was ridiculously cold no towels in the pool area even after I complain went back to swim again and still no towels in the pool area. I almost slipped and fell carrying my two-year-old son on the way to the room because we were cold and soaking wet the heater in my room did not work thank God I always bring a space heater really nice place but not kept up well I guess this is what you get when kids run the place I will never stay here again even if it was $30 a night ...

No hot water. Typically a hotel informs guests when basic services are not available, but not here. It wasn't until I called the front desk after checking in that I was informed the water heater wasn't working. No apologies, just an "oh yeah its been out all day." Not looking for a 5 star resort but come on!
