Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Valdosta

I am a Marriott Bonvoy member and I have been for over 10 years. We are a military family and we were traveling from one place to the next and decided to stop at Marriott to relax for awhile since I can get late check outs with my status. This by far is one of the worst hotels I have stayed in as far as cleanliness. This hotel property is not up to the Marriott standard. We checked in around 9 PM or 10 PM and went to sleep without really paying attention to the room. When I woke up to get ready to shower around 5 AM, I was disgusted with the bathroom. The tub was not clean. Neither was the sink area. The microwave was not clean and neither was the fridge and the floor had not been vacuumed properly. Not the greatest, but far better than many of the relatively recent reviews. Granted we were only here for one night, but the hotel (including the pool) was generally pretty clean. The lobby area was quite nice. Our room was clean; the only “issue” was there was only one regular coffee in the room….certainly not a major issue. The staff were friendly, efficient and professional. The breakfast was pretty good for this class hotel.

First let me say ALL the staff was great and this is not a problem with them or management. The OWNER is the problem. It's obvious that $$ was not put into this hotel except for new carpet and cameras. I was in 2 rooms both had: 1. A musty smell 2. AC problems 3. Mold/algae on the windows and possibly the AC unit. I'd already switched rooms there was no point in doing it again to get the same thing. The gym: 1. Equipment squeaked so loud when adjusting the height on the treadmill 2. Other treadmill had a worn out belt that jerked so hard that I almost injured myself. The breakfast, although free is composed of (mainly) breads, eggs, sausage or thin bacon pieces with a yogurt or dairy product. Positive: I wouldn’t know. They charged me for a room, but told me that they didn’t have one available for me. Negative: I did not like that I was able to book the room and be charged for the room, but not stay in the room. Staff was not helpful on location. They basically said I was out of luck.

Stayed at this property 3 separate times. Issues with smelly A/C (sort of mildew smell that aggravated my sinuses)in one room. Seems like the rooms get a bare minimum clean. Hotel (rooms escpecially) need a remodel. I want to give it 2 stars but location and customer service balanced it out. Overall, I would probably stay here a 4th time if I had to.
