Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Mount Vernon Rend Lake

First let me say that the staff was great, and the hotel is very clean. As a gold member, they upgraded my room without me asking. I was a little put off by the electrical arrangements (see picture). The only real disappointment was the breakfast. For the hot offerings they had oatmeal with the consistency of wallpaper paste, a prepackaged spinach and cheese quiche and scrambled eggs. I asked the attendant if there was any meat like sausage or bacon and was told "We don't serve meat in this hotel". Really?

This was an overnight stay while traveling. The outside of the hotel was a complete mess. The lot was dirty and full of trash. There is some construction going on in entryway. Overall room was clean but hotel is old and showing wear. The bed was uncomfortable. Breakfast was decent and coffee was good.

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel was under remodel when I stayed. There are a lot of food, stores, and gas stations around to give a healthy supply of options.

2nd visit within a year. Great halfway location to my destination. Great breakfast, who could not pass up on waffles.
