Econo Lodge Airport @ RJ Stadium

Spent SuperBowl Sunday here. Was met with a $100 deposit, that they haven't returned despite a posted policy to the contrary, rude staff, a non-working room, so I was switched to a room I hadn't booked, stained appliances and cracked flooring and tiling. Should not be considered, even if they are empty. I will be calling to settle this deposit business, but I will be suing if this isn't fixed. ETA: Just talked with the business. The $100 deposit scam is a feature, not a bug. I will be moving forward with a class action lawsuit. I urge others to check their banks and verify whether their charges were released.

We arrived at night. They gave us a room, but the heating wasn't working. And it was 42°F outside! Do you know how many times they changed our room? Seven times! And the heating still didn't work. They refused to give us another, better room. It was a terrible experience. They gave us a small heater.

The stay was good as usual the only issue I had was there was a shortage on towels. When I needed one it seemed like it was supply in demand. After hours even though housekeeping is not there the front desk should be cross trained to load soiled towels to have limited supply for all the guests needing linen. Check out was at 11am, and even though I was allowed a later check out at 12, I was not able to leave the hotel and go to my next destination feeling fresh and showered. The housekeeping team works diligently and they are so friendly. They were trying to keep up but they were so backed trying fulfill their work and stay ahead.

I was very uncomfortable when I arrive to the property. It was a lot of people hanging out their hotel doors were open. It was a lot of trafficking with drugs related my room smelled like marijuana my first room my toilet didn’t flush and the air conditioner didn’t work. My second room smelled like a pound of marijuana. In the showerhead did not work and when I asked for a refund, the supervisor told me that I had to contact the booking agency that I booked through, which is very understandable but yeah, I had a very bad experience with this hotel and I just feel like they need to clean it up and etc. as a woman traveling alone and trying to go to a hotel. It’s very scary and dangerous.

After reading through many reviews and staying here with realistic expectations, I think this property ultimately lands at 4 stars for the right type of traveler, especially when location, price, and purpose are taken into account. First and foremost, the location is the biggest advantage. Being directly across from Raymond James Stadium is extremely convenient for games, concerts, and events. It’s also close to Tampa International Airport, International Plaza, food options, and major roads. If you need a place to crash for a night before or after an event or early flight, this location is hard to beat.
