Down Home Lodge & Family RV Resort

Funny to read some of the unfriendly reviews about Down Home Lodge. My wife and I stayed overnight to take the Cumbres & Toltec train the following day. Besides very reasonable rates compared with other overpriced locations, what was amazing was not only the quaintness and cleanliness of our room but the utterly surprising upstairs "continental breakfast" room thoughtfully charming in every way! Time and attention to detail within an atmosphere of home town relaxation! We could not believe how awesome it was craftfully decorated and homey! Much better than paying for a diner breakfast in town! The owner Don was gracious and accommodating for us. Guess some folks might be quick to judge after traveling some distance and just tired. I tent camped here for a couple of off season nights. The camp grounds are clean, we'll enough appointed for rent camping. Nice and quiet. Deer running around the edges, and ducks on the river. They had some changes in tent arrangements since the city started gouging for water the bath house was closed. Management had reasonable accommodations for a solo camper like me. Staff was super friendly and professional. Good local folks making it work. Good stay.

We stayed in our rv while visiting Down Home Lodge and RV. Unfortunately we made the mistake of arriving early. We were fully prepared to hang out but choose to see if we could enter early because the place was empty. First mistake, The gentleman was not what I was expecting. Let’s say he was NOT welcoming. I offered to pay extra… he didn’t charge us. From this point on I just wanted to go somewhere else. I’m sure this is a great place but not for me

This is such a beautiful area along the River with fishing and wildlife. My only complaint is the Welcome. We were early for check in into the rv area and in an interesting way was scolded for doing so, although in the 3 nights we were there, we were the only rv that came in. Not very full to say the least. I’m sure in busier days this place may be different. From the beginning we felt unwelcomed and we were happy to leave. | Wish the experience could have been better as I said beautiful area but will never return to this spot.

The guy was very ride from minute one. The room stunk when we walked in. Anyway, we decided to go eat in town, decided to drive around by the fireplaces first and check things out. We were going about 10 mph through there, we look up and there's the owner standing in the middle of the road to stop us. Get up to him and he didnt say a word, just pointed at the 5 mph sign, OMG! We were the ONLY people out there. And there is a list of "rules" in the room. Empty your garbage in the big dumpster, no makeup on towels or you have to buy them, have to use same towel for 3 days if staying that long, amongst others. This guy was not a people person at all. Wouldn't recommend
