In a town known for over-the-top pricing for hotels, it was great for my husband and I to stay at the Crows Nest, which is 8 rooms on the 3rd floor of the Seamen’s Church Institute. |Here are the pros:|- very reasonable price |- location is amazing - literally right in the middle of it all in Newport - but you can’t hear the din outside with the air conditioner or fan on in your room|- comfortable full-size bed in our room|- building is well-maintained and very clean |- shared bathroom down the hall was always spotless, well-lit and relatively new fixtures |- no TV in room (I consider that a pro)|- 1930 historic building with well-appointed, traditional-style common room, wood-paneled library, and Art Deco-era chapel is very quaint |- air conditioner in room |- quiet hour begins at 10:00pm

Just know that you will spend 40 bucks a night on parking at the aquarium parking lot (not that close). There is no overnight parking other than there. The rooms are tidy and clean. The bathroom is dorm style and shared. Bring your flipflops for the shower. There is an unpleasant sewage smell as you go up the stairs but it disappears once you are on 3rd floor. The chapel within the building is charming.

Five stars just because it is what it is. A room above a ministry. Super clean, great rate and the best location in Newport. No TV, no AC, no bathroom in room. But it was perfect for one night. Would do it again.

This truly is a hidden gem of a bargain, as others have said. The location is ideal, the staff is friendly, the rooms clean, the beds comfortable. They offer maritime types a discount, but all are welcome to fill the rooms and provide income for their causes. Visitors are told repeatedly that 1.) no alcohol is permitted on the premises, and 2.) no non-registered guests may come into the rooms. Far more useful information would be the following: 1.) there is no soap of any kind anywhere in the shared bathrooms, just a box full of random things past travelers have left behind, and 2.) the bathrooms may run out of toilet paper, as they did on September 10. We're talking those big industrial size rolls you might see in an airport restroom, that hold two enormous rolls. Completely empty,

There’s really two parts to the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI), the institutional part on the main and second floors and the aptly named third floor Crow’s Nest residences. The mission of the Institute is to provide “....a safe haven for whose who work, live, and play on or by the sea.” This they do by providing a wonderful sanctuary to those that need overnight lodgings or those that just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Newport for an hour or two.||||The first floor has a reception desk for those booking rooms in the third floor Crow’s Nest, a small café that mainly serves fresh tea, coffee, and some sandwiches, the Mariner’s Lounge (a large dining/commons room), and an outside private patio with a few tables. The basement has immaculately kept bathrooms complete with s
