Courtyard by Marriott Winston-Salem Hanes Mall

After a recent harrowing hotel experience elsewhere, I feel the need to offer my sincerest praise to all the staff I interacted with this past weekend, but particularly Allen. Allen was courteous and helpful from the moment my teammates and I checked-in to the moment we checked-out. He shared he struggled with chronic headaches constantly, but he was always so professional, pleasant, and friendly it would have been impossible to know. As a frequent traveler, it makes all the difference interacting with people who do their jobs well. Allen sets the bar high for people working in the hospitality industry. The hotel is some 10-15 mins from Winston Salem downtown. It’s an ok property - partly renovated, staff a mixed bag - some super friendly and helpful and others who don’t say hello when you greet them. Limited breakfast offering and lines with only one person working the counter. An outside pool that was nice to sit at and ample parking. It’s OK.

Positive: The room was big and spacious. Negative: Yes, they required a $100 deposit for "incidentals!" I think that's ridiculous! It's been days since I checked out and I still don't have my $100 back in my checking account!

Groups of kids running through the hallways and slamming multiple doors literally all night while parents stayed in the lobby getting drunk. Started back up around 6 in the morning called and went to front desk multiple times. Safe to say I wasn’t the only person to put in a complaint. Besides that my room was fine (clean, everything worked, etc) Not saying I wouldn’t stay here again but it wouldn’t be my first pick which sucks because I really love the room and the area it is located in.

I am a loyal Bonvoy member, and I am a long time hospital employee that stays at this location for weekends that I'm on call. The front desk staff are extremely rude. They answer the phone without telling you their names, as well as will hang up on you before you're finished speaking. I highly recommend looking elsewhere in this area for another Marriott hotel.
