Back Ranch Meadows Campground

Really appreciated that I could book last-minute, find the campground pretty empty and quiet the October weeknights I stayed, and have great access to trails with nice views! Cute little deer everywhere! All the time! Drive slow. And lots of other wildlife. Use the food lockers / store food properly. I saw slash piles and think they’re working on wildfire mitigation and poison oak control. Know that there’s not much vegetative privacy between most sites. Bring quarters if you want to shower. The one I used was the perfect hot temperature, luckily, since it wasn’t adjustable. Enjoy!

I love China Camp as a park but have mixed feelings about this campground. Come here in the spring for glorious weather, green, and blossoms. Summer is uncomfortable unless the fog is in. Fall is a dust pile and should be avoided. The camp host is extremely nice. Camp is accessible to lovely short and longer trails. There isn’t a lot of privacy between sites and be ready for the constant whine of air mattresses being inflated if you are there during a Friday setup rush. Avoid sites right next to the bathroom/showers people practically walk through your campsite. The poison oak is truly awful here. Even areas they cleared are scary because the vines soon poke up again and are hard to see. Do NOT come here if you suffer with severe allergies.

We had such a lovely time here. Plenty of peace and quiet. The only troublemakers were the rascally raccoons. The hosts are nice, the place was clean and equipped well. -1 star for only cold coin operated showers. Not upset about paying for the shower, only that it was icy. All things considered it was a great campground and I'd love to return. We enjoyed the area but be prepared to drive to the beach and attractions.

Great trails for social rides, and areas for hiking, camping, nature walks. More technical riding available for those in need of something more challenging than the calm loop. Make sure to support FoCC to keep this great park open and cared for!

Booked online and was not able to make it there before they closed. A note was left for us on the office with a map and directions and a gate code to let us on. The place had a fenced in dog area which was very helpful for my wife and I who have 2 hunting dogs. The bathrooms and showers were ok, but it was good for a camp site. Overall it was nice and peaceful experience and a great stop for the night.
