Wingate by Wyndham Kill Devil Hills NC

Stayed here when it was a Best Western, and we loved it. Saw some less than stellar reviews, but decided to book anyway. We didn’t love the place, but it wasn’t horrible either. The location and views are great. The room itself was good. Plenty of space which was nice. You get a living room and separate bedroom for the same price if not less as you would just a room. The views from our fourth floor room above the pool were great. The room is newly updated, and for the most part clean. The beds were comfortable and clean. We really liked having the living room to sit and relax in the evenings. The breakfast was good. I have been staying at this hotel for years, since it was the Best Western Ocean Reef Suites. This was my first stay with my family since the Wingate by Wyndham takeover. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. Even if the room was free, I would not return. We had two large level leaks in our living room area under an electrical outlet, the first soaking our belongings and causing our son to slip and fall when returning from the beach. They claimed they repaired it, only to have the same leak the next day. We also had a dripping leak in the bedroom from the ceiling. The floors were disgustingly dirty and grimy. We did not have a phone or any way to contact the front desk. Our remotes were missing batteries. The coffee maker was broken. Some of the furniture, including the pull out sofa was still wrappe

DO NOT STAY HERE! Stayed here as a Best Western and loved it, now that it’s a Wingate by Wyndham and “renovated” it is beyond horrendous. The front desk staff is incompetent, unhelpful, and unfriendly to say the least. Refused to provide us with management contact information when they were unable to help, and was “too scared” to call them themselves. Called an assistant manager instead and only provided with half the issue leaving out the full story. They now consider any room that can see the ocean “ocean view” regardless if it’s over a pool and dune. There is no way to book an “oceanfront” room as they consider the whole FACILITY oceanfront. Multiple other guests arrived and complained of the same room location issues to also be dismissed by the front staff as it’s “how Wyndham class

When making this reservation in May of 2023 we chose this hotel because of the name. We assumed that this chain is reputable and didn't mind paying extra money for a good experience. We were told that some renovations were being done but were assured in an email that renovations would be complete before the summer season. The only good point was that the room was clean. The new furniture was rock hard and very uncomfortable. The kitchenette and bathroom cabinets were many years old and falling apart. The sink in the kitchenette was held up with two 2by4s. The cheap coffee maker was ancient and leaked and there weren't any paper towels to clean up the mess. There was no ice machine on our floor. Had high hopes with the name Wyndham but in all my Time going to Obx I have never dealt with this. The property has so much potential to be nice but honestly the staff at check in were horrible, rude , and couldn’t even run my card one of the cleaning ppl had to do it. The pool was disgusting the hot tub had a patio built over it . On to the room the layout was different in 2 bed in front room a sofa and 2 chairs in the room with the balcony . I kind of like the layout but it didn’t feel cleaned sand and dirt on the floor ,stuff taped on the ceiling holding doors closed ,no place to put my towel or clothes while in the shower ,not even a toilet paper holder on the wall it was just placed on the back of the toilet .
