Nice secluded group camp ground. Went here as part our Scout Troop activity. good for Scouts. Not too many flat spots for family camping. In it own cul-de-sac. parking ( more than 2 vehicles) recommended by the main road. the driveway can be used for transporting your equipment all the way to the campground.
We have been to this group campsite before on Mt. Diablo. It is quite big and has a decent area where the ground is level enough to pitch your tents. It has 2 porta-potties, 6 picnic benches, 3 charcoal grilling area in a row and a fire pit. It is always very DUSTY at Mt. Diablo!! Make sure to wear old sneakers and long pants so that your feet don't get too dusty. It was a pain for a couple of my friends who wore capris and sandals, since it was a very HOT day, and by night, their feet were caked with dust. They had to wipe their their feet with wet wipes then very carefully get inside their tents without getting them dirty again. Overall, a great experience! Ranger who checked us in at the gate was very nice and informative.
The ground is very hard, rocky and sloped, making it very difficult to pitch a tent securely—it takes a lot of effort. Bring plenty of bedding or padding to avoid discomfort from stones, and be aware that the slope may cause you to slide while sleeping. We also encountered a rattlesnake under the barbecue pit, so we had to stay cautious throughout our stay. The porta potty had a strong odor and was quite unpleasant to use. Additionally, the booking confirmation lacked clear details about the specific campsite or directions to reach it. The general inquiry number was not responsive, which made it harder to get help or information.
Campground is ideal for ~20 people. Has water facility + the cars can be parked near tent site. Too many racoons visit the site at night so keep the site clean and dispose eatables properly. Loved the panoramic views and the beautiful sunset!
The spot is nice and the only downside is that most of the camp is on a slope, The racoons are off the hook so make sure to put your food into locked bins or in your car, do not leave any bag out small enough for them to make off with. We caught a racoons running off with a fanny pack that had a cell charger in it. Guess he wanted to call his buddies. Also two years in a row the ranger at the North Gate entrance does not seem very friendly.
