This is a great, rarely used campground within the Chiricahua Mountains on the Coronado National Forest. There is a restroom and areas for tent, camper trailer, and RV camping. There is a pretty creek next to the campground that in recent years runs during the winter and the monsoon season. This area of the Chiricahuas is beautiful and seldom seen compared to Cave Creek and the National Monument. The fee is only $15 per night. When you're in the area I recommend checking out the historic Camp Rucker site, following the 74 road eastward and the Devil's Canyon trail following the 74 road westward. If you visit Devil's Canyon, be sure to hike up to the top of Rucker Peak (you take a left onto a spur trail right before a gate that the trail passes through). I also suggest visiting Red Rock Ca
This place isn’t known by many but the ones who do will know the peace this place offers. Hardly any pass through traffic. Has a small stream which I’m sure will pick up after the snow. The weather is so much cooler here. There are 9 spots in this circle. Bathrooms have to be the cleanest is all campgrounds I’ve visited. Other campers out of this site come by to use the restroom. Did not see a ranger all weekend. There is a $15 per site use per day. They have random heffers roaming as well .
Great campground. This campground was recently converted from a group site to 10 individual sites. Most of the sites are large enough for good size trailers. The bathrooms were very clean, but they did run out of tp while we were there, so bring your own. Beware that there are cows in the area. The cows stayed out of the campground until we were the only campers. Historic Camp Rucker is just a bit further down the road. Camp Rucker still has some remaining buildings with placards describing the camp.
Campground is fine, 23 mile drive on bad road is a nightmare.I stayed there for 2 nights and camping is fine, nothing special. The drive is 23 miles one way. Road is mostly county and unfortunately not smooth or well maintained. I had a lot of damage inside my trailer from the rough road, on the way out I drove very slow, 75 minutes to drive 23 miles. Road has a lot of wash board and rocks within the road bed. I don't see it being improved much in a poor rural area. Just be aware, drive very slow and make sure all your gear is stowed properly. I have years of experience camping and this was the worst drive ever. Unfortunately I won't go back due to the horrible road. Rucker ranch/homestead was cool to check out. So the road isn't bad to where you need a 4x4, it's just very rough. A car can
Clean and very well provisioned.
