Villa 1565 Hotel Historic St. Augustine FL

We were there 1 year ago. We stopped for one night on the way. A very friendly and efficient administrator quickly organized everything and gave all the necessary instructions. The room had everything you need, as indicated in the description of the hotel. Snow-white linens on large beds and towels in the spacious bathroom, refrigerator, microwave, mini-coffee machine, TV..The price was so small that the buffet breakfast could not be included in the room rate....But it was turned on. Plastic tableware is understandable, but it's sad. The choice of snacks is simple, some kind of fake food... We could only eat eggs there... the houses with red tiled roofs in the Spanish style, like in old Florida, are very beautiful... The hotel has a clean swimming pool, an incredible 600-year-old oak tree

The room was nice, recently redone and had a new AC/ heating unit. It was convenient to the historic town, but a bit far for women in their late 60s like us to walk to. We drove to park in the garage behind the visitors center ($20 a day) and parked behind Lightener Museum ($4.50 an hour) because we thought $38 a day per person for the trolley was too expensive. The property is a renovated motel with a Spanish feel. From my reading prior to our trip, it seemed that spot is very near to where the Spanish first came to settle. My book said the spot was .5 mile north of the Castillo de San Marcos, and the hotel is.8 north of it. We didn’t eat the free breakfast, but the entrance to that area was a bit confusing. Others mentioned in their reviews that the floors made their bare feet black. The

The room did not meet the pictures online.  The water had a bad smell. There was absolutely no place to put anything in the bathroom while trying to get ready. The breakfast left a lot to be desired.

I really enjoyed our stay. Upon checking in we were upgraded to a family suite which was more spacious. Which was nice even though we were on a couple trip. The room was nice and clean and smelled nice. I liked the huge shower we had, the faucet could use an upgrade though. If we visit the area again we would definitely stay here again. The hotel grounds were really cute with little seating areas and huge oak trees. We were in walking distance of downtown and we walked everywhere for Nights of Lights. Walking distance from the room was about 15 minutes from downtown. The breakfast was pretty good, not many hot options but it was good. We had eggs with meat in it, potatoes, biscuits and runny gravy. Then the usual yogurt, bagels, toast and muffins.

The only thing beneficial of this hotel is the location. We drove up to a dingy motel, unkempt on the outside. We were still hopeful that the room would better. Upon entering the room smelled strongly of bleach. The air conditioner was dirty, dusty, and rusty. The entire room was HUMID and DAMP, it had to have had mold. The bed had a long black hair in it. The nightstand was wet and sticky from the humidity with more hairs on it. The walls were dirty. It felt so unsanitary we could not stay there and we did not.
